Whats up team I came across a 92 TBI 360 that the owner said overheats but still runs. It’s out of a 92 pick up, so I’m guessing it’s had some hard miles. I would buy it as a core to rebuild, but I'm a bit leary with it over heating. He wants $200. I consider that a fair price if it is salvageable. What do you think, should I grab it?

Yup. Snag it. Last of the LAs, roller cam, 308 heads, factory windage tray, takes standard LA intake manifolds (unlike Magnums). I wouldn't worry too much on the overheating unless it was on the verge of a meltdown- could be due to anything from a slipping fan belt to a clogged radiator to low coolant- not necessarily an engine issue. I love those engines.

If you are planning on running the TBI be sure to get whatever harness / modules / sensors are needed to run it.

For a tired core that has known problems that seems like a lot to me. Lots of unknowns including cracked block/ sleeve, heads, etc might need to be decked and heads shaved on top of bored

50 That's it

Cheap enough to take a chance on.
That’s kind of my thought process to. It’s already pulled as well. Buy it and see what I got. It’s a high mileage unit. I have a set of 1.88 J heads and a airgap to use if the heads are junk. With any luck the block is worthy of a rebuild.

you must be in a good area for parts. I haven’t came around on a $50 360 engine ever.

A $50 roller 360 would be a score. You might not use the heads anyway.

Well I picked it up for $150, he probably would have taken less who knows. Not much to report at first glance. Looks like head gasket blew IMO judging by all the smooze on the side of the block. It’s a 91 360 roller block. I’ll dig a little into later see whats all going on with it.

Looks like someone swapped the heads maybe.

IF you run the roller cam with anything other than the roller heads you will need to rework the pushrod holes in the heads for clearance. Just to let you know.
Now if you put a bigger cam in it look into a Howard's 98438-k32 spring kit.

jadaharabi I’ll take a look at that cam. So far so good looking somewhat clean inside.

That is a Howard dual spring, retainer and keeper kit. Good for up to .690 lift with a 1.65 installed height.

I had to get this motor out the truck before my wife gets home from work and sees that I bought more junk. A couple beers and a plan. I got it tuck in the garage nicely. I also found the issues, driver side had clogged up passages will do it every time. 3 and 5 had water in it. The clogged passages was a contributing factor. Does have the 308 heads that appeared to have the exhaust valves replaced. Now I need the to clean the house and get dinner started to appear that I wasn’t gone for a 3hr trip to get that motor. Haha!!!

Dude!! You use the same MO as I do. I have so many car parts and junk in my garage that my wife can't tell if I rearranged stuff or put new stuff in there. I always try to bring stuff home while she's at work and when she gets home she walks right through the garage with out even noticing if i added anything. If ,by chance, she does happen to notice something new (not very likely) ....I just say, oh my friend had that at his house and told me I could have it for free!!!!! If she knew how many times I've gone out of town to get stuff she would kill me!!!

Yeah she’s not one for trips. I can jump in my truck drive 1.5hrs one way, like I did today with out thinking twice about it. If she has to get on a HWY she’s not feeling it.
