Had to call AAA this morning, as my daily driver battery went dead at the strip mall, a mile from my home.
Walked home, and only wanted to get ahold of the AAA quick service truck, and not needing a tow.
Just wanted to buy a battery from them, and get me over to the strip mall, to install it.

Well, now everything is an automated prompting system, way before you even get a human.

Listening to their messages it tells you that you can't ride in the cab of the tow truck, or quick service truck, if your broke down, and needing a tow to a shop, or to your residence.
Then how the F do you get home if your broke down on the shoulder of the highway, or street?

I pay the 99 bucks a year for their tow insurance, and this policy is a big rip off.

Anyone else hear of this, or experience this policy before?

Tow Trucks Will Not Allow You To Ride With the Driver
So, when you are stranded, you need to not only call AAA and get help with your vehicle, you also need to arrange your own transportation from your break-down location to home or to the repair shop.Jul 11, 2020

Depending on company policies an owner can ride inside thier own car if it's on a flatbed truck. Obviously, must be seat belted in. It's being done quite a bit lately around here.

I thought something like that is against any type of motor vehicle laws that any state has in their rules and regulations.
And what about insurance policy, riding in your car, when it's on a flat bed truck?
What do you do, if you need the full 100 mile tow, to get back home?

What ya gonna do if the car is smashed in, and your ok.
You gonna ride in the seat of your car, smashed, on the flat bed truck?

A while back we had a right front tire blow out on our RV on the highway. When our insurance company arranged a tow for us, the towing company contacted me and said I would have to make other arrangements for transportation since we COULD NOT ride in the cab due to COVID 19. I asked, What the hell are we supposed to do?" He said it wasn't his problem. Fortunately we were close enough to home that we called our daughter. What if we had been 1,000 miles from home in the middle of nowhere?

This is why I don't use any of those services. I have tow service as part of our auto insurance through Geico and it's worked very well so far.

must be new since the C19. i've ridden in the cab a few times over the years in order to get home with the car

Most towing policies limit you to a certain number of free miles before you start paying out of your own pocket.

Must be a new C19 thing.
A few years ago when at a friends over in Denver the tranny went out in my Dakota. My friend used his AAA to have my Dakota towed to a tranny shop 60 miles away in Co Springs and I road in the cab.

With AAA it was 100 miles limit. I had it years ago for my wife and daughter and it worked good. After my daughter grew up and the wife and I split up I stopped having it.

This ^^^^ is very possible.

AAA left me stranded for over 7 hours 25 years ago when my car broke down... I finally got so fed up waiting for their truck to show up, I called another towing company and sent the bill to AAA...

I don't appreciate being stroked around for 7 hours... I broke down at 7 AM and finally got towed home by 2 PM - and not by their service, their guy was too 'busy' fixing cars and couldn't come get me... They refused to call another towing company to fill in and tow me... I dropped them like a fly ball and never gone back... :icon_fU:

It wasted my vacation day off that I was supposed to golf with a bunch of guys from work... I broke down just before getting to the golf course and they jerked me around so bad, I never got to golf that day and got home at the same time the other guys that I was supposed to meet up and golf with got home and I didn't get to golf...

AAA service is as useless as tits on a bull....

I have triple aaa and no complaints. When the dart threw the original water pump coming home from the Lemons rally...they towed it 136 miles. All because no one in a 50 miles radius had a slant water pump.

used to be able to ride int he truck. pretty sure its the covid situation not allowing you to ride with them anymore...

call lyft or uber..

Yep it's the whole Covid thing why they won't let you ride. Hell a lot of the places you go shopping
they don't even open the bathrooms anymore I call it BS.:bs_flag:

From what I hear from the media, if you and the tow rig driver each wear a mask there should be no problem with both of you riding in the cab and CV 19.
For extra protection for the driver of the rig,,, you could wear a Haz-Mat suit.

People are flying on planes with a hundred other people, wearing masks and being seated 22” apart for hours at a time. What is the big deal riding in a tow truck for a few minutes with the driver? Stupid!!
I agree AAA is a rip-off these days. I had a policy on my daughter in case of emergency when she was in college 200 miles away. Never had an issue. My dad waited 2 hours in a parking lot for them to change a flat (he’s 87) but finally got tired of waiting and called me. AAA is like everything else, service was much better in the past.

I bought a car dolly and a winch, and have three vehicles with hitches.

I have used all three to tow one of the others at least once.

Money WELL spent. All I have to do is call my wife to come get me, and then return with a tow vehicle and the dolly.

I dumped AAA years ago because they are a ripoff. They tout there DMV services but fail to tell you that they can not do most transactions. By the way there is a long line and they charge you for it.
How is that a benefit.
Another is buying movie tickets at a discount, by the time you get through their long line, you missed the show.
In case you haven't noticed the very aggressive and mulitple ads from AAA on tv lately.
They are going down
They simply CHARGE TOO MUCH and give you HORRIBLE service.
Cut them off!

So you walked home (no cell phone???) and you didn’t have a jump box so you could just jump your DD and get home?

I had the included towing with Hartford insurance co. When my Van broke down ,called the number on our insurance card and got the run around. Telling my wife they couldn't find out policy bla bla bla.

If you saw how AAA contracts with the tow companies and treats the tow companies you would understand why there is all the delays, bs, and no riding in the tow truck.
