1972 Scamp in New Zealand

They were 235s but I’ve sold them now as I couldn’t find a set of 14” steel rims that met my requirements
yea 14 inch wheels, not a lot of options. I love the look of them tho on a Abody. Are you still gonna run 14s?

Well I picked the car up from R3 Fabrications, well I picked up what’s left of it haha,

that’s all the parts that were on the car when I dropped it off,

car is all straight and back home so that I can continue to strip under seal off, and start saving, plan will be to buy new rear 1/4s from the states, have it blasted and dropped back to R3 to be put back together so is a sizeably large financial requirement so may be a while away,

And now there is an internal fight with myself as to whether I should Or shouldn’t mini tub it while it’s in this state

Finally managed to get to zebra-U-pick to get a rear diff from an explorer, I missed out on the one a friend had told me about because I was slack.

anyway Zebra finally had one come into stock at the end of June so I went out this morning and plucked it out of this

gladly all bolts came out with out a fight and it ended up with this

it’s a 3L73 so 3.73 ratio LSD, I still need to source another short side axle, shorten the long side down But should do the job nicely

Too bad they didn’t have another one there. I took another short side axle while at the yard and stuck in the long side before I checked out. No extra cost that way :)

haha that would have been ideal, I know where this is another explorer at another yard so hopefully I can get that too,

Well with being back in lockdown has provided some time (when I’m on my off shift) so I got the engine almost repainted and assembled

new gaskets, frost plugs etc

Hoist earning its keep again

Messed around with a couple of ideas on the rocker covers

settled on engine coloured with black fins

Ended up with this, still have to do the other rocker cover to match, just waiting on some more paint,

I ended up getting VHT early Chrysler blue, it’s a bit greener than I what I was planning on using, but I’m actually happy as with how it has come out!

not a bad use of a day off

The valve covers look awesome. What was your process for getting the black lines?

Haha to be honest it was just a test so I did it with permanent marker, once the rocker covers are repainted properly I’ll come up with a plan to paint the fins permanently

Ok guys I need some recommendations, I need to get rear 1/4s ordered and sent to New Zealand, where’s the best place to get them from, I can’t seem to find Scamp ones, only dart rear 1/4s but there is 70-71 or 72-76, what do I get?

also it turns out that my K-frame is tweaked, has anyone got a factory one for sale that they would be willing to ship to my freight guy in the US? At my expense obviously haha.

72 scamp rear quarters are the same as 72 dart if that helps any. Goodmark makes the "half quarters" these are the ones that dont go up into the roof. About $250 a side. It's the same basic panel from 70-73. Only difference is the side marker light was changed in 72. You can use a 70-71 panel and rework the hole if need be.

Check www.getallparts.com for them. I got my 67 and 69 barracuda quarters from them quite a bit cheaper than $250 a side. See my screen shot below. May be a generic pic because of the hole punched for the side lights. If you order from these guys always look online for the 10% off discount code.

awesome thanks for that,

No we (by that I mean Greg at R3 Fabrication) are going to fabricate a replacement floor panel, with a rectangular drop in it to accommodate a fuel cell.

Well rear quarter panels have been ordered and should hopefully be on the way to my shipper in the next week or so.

cheers @moparmat2000 for the recommendation!

so far they have set me back about 790 NZD shipped to my shipper in California, so once he charges me the GST (NZ tax) and freight, I think I’ll still be pretty happy with what they cost me.

re the short explorer halfshaft, i got a new one from summit racing for £65 gbp plus postage. it wasn't worth searching and removing a used one at that price.
neil.
ps summit do amd panels too, i got my 4 speed hump from them.

Turns out it was a PayPal issue, some how paypal changed my delivery address on the order from my shippers address to my home address and because it was a New Zealand address they cancelled it because they don’t ship to NZ, will sort out my paypal and re-order

Just an FYI you can use your stock mopar driveshaft without having to weld on the explorer end. Just use a 457C u joint. It will fit your chrysler driveshaft and ford yoke.

Hey Ben, I sent you a PM on some shock plates for that 8.8. I have these custom made out of 1/4" plate. Not sure when I will have more made. I am down to my last set of these to sell. Keeping 1 set for my sons 8.8 swap. A body shock plates made to fit the larger 8.8 axle tube.

We are also working on motor mount savers for 67-72 small block V8 A body. Should have some of these ready for sale in a few weeks. Only needed on LH side. Prevents the rubber LH mount from tearing apart under hard engine torque over. Common problem with the 67-72 V8 LH mount. This way you dont have to run a harsh solid mount, or expensive poly mounts, or even a torque chain.

Thanks Matt I’ll look into them and get back to you,

on the plus side I managed to sort the PayPal issue and re-ordered the rear 1/4 panels,

Goal for the upcoming weekend is to get the diff stripped so I can sort out the shortening of the housing, feels good to be moving forward again.

Hi Ben

Thanks. These are nice plates. I needed a set for my sons 8.8 swap, and hooked up with somebody who could make them for me. I had a bunch of other sets made figuring others would need them.

Glad you got your PayPal sorted out. I bought a set of 67 barracuda quarter skins from them, along with a battery tray. Ran me $311 total shipped to my doorstep truck freight. I thought somebody there screwed up, so I kept checking my credit card statements for a few months afterward. Nothing. A few years later I ordered a pair of 69 barracuda quarter skins, no battery tray, and a 10% discount code. It was $313 total to my doorstep LoL.

I also sent you another PM about the battery cable sets I make. Not sure if you would be interested. I have sets made for 70-72 small block A body. These are not concours correct for an exact restoration but are great for weekend warrior, local show , daily driver cars. Positive cable is about 3-4 inches longer than stock. Negative is 2 inches longer than stock. I use high temp terminals, OFC copper wire, glue type shrink tubing. I had a need for these for my 67, and my sons 69. Figured others might want them as well.
