Any advantages to having dual magnetic pickups on an electronic distributor with vacuum advance. I found one on an 88 ram van in my local boneyard. Almost like an electronic version of a dual point. 09Thanks in advance

I've never seen one with a mechanical advance, so yeah, that would be a disadvantage. Does yours have mechanical advance?

Runn it is a lean burn. One pick up is retarded the other works like a stock one and it needs a computer that usually mounts on the air cleaner. Without that you will get phasing issues.

A long time ago,
I had an idea to use the second pick-up to advance the engine when it was cold, instead of a choke. It turned out that my engine didn't need a fast idle, so never got to try it.

I left it on the van, it's got a vac advance and dual pickups. Kinda threw me for a loop. I was all ready to pull it because I saw the vac advance. Then I saw the 2 sets of magnetic pickups and went WTF!!!

take a close look there. You can see the two pick-ups are not set the same relative to the nearest vane. The upper is slightly further CW of the vane, than the lower. Of course that means one of them is further advanced/retarded with respect to the other.

A guy could make a tool with that.........
