When I first bought my junk old Landcruiser, it had a 283 swapped in. Sounded OK hit on all 8 and didn't use much oil but it had ZERO power. I had converted the vacuum shift transfer case to manual, and the winter before the Mopar went in there, I used to start out, instead of high range/ 1st gear, I'd start in 2nd gear low range and DOUBLE CLUTCH the transfer case into high range LOLOL
