RB oil pick up tube longer than stock

My pan set up takes 8 quarts, counting oil in filter so that sounds about right. The pan looks like it had an extension piece welded to it, as it wasn't as well done as pans are made today. This tube is at least 40 years old. I would take a pic of my pan to show you what I mean but the engine is at the shop with the car.
