good evening guys,

on my Dodge the bolt pattern is 5x4. With a more powerful 440 engine it is necessary to change by a 5x4.5 model?
1- you change to adapt larger brake discs?
2- is it easier to find aluminum wheels?

thanks Andrea

My opinion- original 4-piston Kelsey Hayes brakes should be adequate for normal street use. If you start pushing the potential of that motor, I would upgrade the brake system (more brake). Which leads us to the wheels. There is certainly a greater selection of tire/wheel combos available in BBP. You might be going to 15". With bigger brakes you most certainly be going 15" and BBP.

yeah, it is not "needed" but it may, may, make things easier in the long haul

US indy still makes SBP wheels in several sizes BUT definitely easier to find wheels in BBP, specially where you're at
(just curious, what part of Belgium are you from?)

lets start on the back, what rear end do you have now?

if that is up to the job, you can get either a Kelsey Hayes set up for the front, or a scare bird conversion kit
both of those will allow you to keep the SBP

if the rear end needs to be replaced anyway, might as well find one with the BBP and swap the front to match

thank you very much for your answers;
I would like a 9 inch Ford in the back.
for the rims I very much want the 16 inches, by the simple question of having very good tires at a good price.
for the moment I am studying to make several combinations.
i like to chat with you a lot because you have all the possibilities.
I live in Bierges, region of Walloon Brabant, it is very close to Brussels

are you thinking of pulling a ford 9 out of a junkyard?
i think the explorers are a popular donor for them
they come with good gear ratios, rear discs and if you pay attention, can be had with a locking unit in it

they should also come with a BBP, so that opens up the door to a much larger front brake section
either post 72 mopars, or aftermarket

too bad on the Wallonia part of your heritage, i was born in Norht Brabant, and ive always liked the Flemish tongue
what little French i knew got lost when i learned Spanish

My brother still uses the 5x4 with drums on his 67 barracuda that trapped at 115 in the 1/4 and he didn't worry too much.

They make 5 on 4 1/2 rotors for the early disc brake cars with 4 piston brakes. I would keep the 4 piston brakes. Just jack up a single piston and spin the tire it stops from drag in less then a turn.

Then do a 4 piston they just keep on spinning. They stay cooler then the single piston. There is no friction when not applied with the 4 piston Kelsey Hayes, Just like using a Wilwood or Strange caliper.

So that leaves the rear. Just get better BB axles and convert the rear to disc. Now your ready for drag radials, bead locks and front runners.

my grandfather was Flemish

I was thinking of buying brand new rear axles. For the moment I made a list of the best technical possibilities compared to my budget.
my priority is to have a fast and very reliable car

I am studying the possibility of transporting the Currie Ford 9 '' axles to Belgium.
probably with drum brakes at the rear to be able to pass more easily to the technical control here.
and dream of ordering two relationship. 3.90 and a 3.50.
the Detroit Tuetrac system seems to me a good choice for the road.
what is your opinion on the type of axes?
28,31,35 spline?
I am thinking of opening a new article with all my ideas concerning the projects of my future engine, gearbox, rear axles.
your opinion and knowledge is very important to me.
despite I am an engine specialist, the choice of possibilities in the USA is quite simply gigantic, and I cannot afford to make too many mistakes, because it costs me almost 3 times more expensive here in Belgium each time the piece arrives here
