Rebuilt 904 w/ tf2 shifting woes...

That's the best advice on here. What if your trans goes ahead and shifts early even after you've set it up like AJ says? Then you know you have an internal problem. You need to stop thinking that you're going to try some new thing and it's going to work. Begin by troubleshooting.

Yes I may be trying this.

Here is a video I took today of the 2nd-3rd shift. With adjusting its sooo much better but still does it.

Adding the edelbrock throttle bracket puts the kd attachment at the same location just moves the throttle cable backwards.
doesn't that also change how close the pivot points are, changing the ratio?

Yes thats what I would assume. It puts the kd line closer in attachment and both lines would follow the same arc of rotation since they would attach closer; instead of now the kd attaches farther back compared to the throttle line.

Set the 2nd gear band to 1 3/4 turn. Kim

Ok! Can I do it without pulling the transmission.

It looks like its adjusted from the outside, but the transmission was out when everything else was done so I want to make sure.

Thanks!

To be clear, you think the bands need to be re-set?

Tighten the band nut all the way then back it off 2 turns, is what the tf2 instructions say to do.
don't know if the factory settings may feel better.

Run the adjusting screw down snug, finger tight. Back off one turn. Lock it down. Spill coffee.

Thanks everyone! Im going to start leading my questions with videos, since apparently its much easier for people to understand the problem

vids are great, just don't confuse the transmission questions with any you might post in the blue forum

So...you 'may' be trying what AJ suggested? He was kind enough to give your problem considerable thought and effort in making his suggestion...but what would you do for fun if this problem was actually diagnosed correctly??

Yes I am going to give Ajs suggestion a try. I have had patients all week, I'm done for the day now so I'm probably going to go home and mess try some things out.

With ur flair up u either need more line pressure or volume. Pressure is the easiest to accomplish. Adjust the pressure regulator. After u do AJs suggestion. Kim

@DentalDart: out of curiosity, what kind of trans fluid are you using?
Type F seems to be highly recommended, and many have had flare issues when using ATF+4 or other fluids...

interesting idea. for the trans i just got, was told by the builder, pennzoil dexron/mercon only.... not recommending that to anyone else btw

Just to be clear, I'm not making any recommendation either - I'm not an auto trans expert by any stretch. I just did some searching and found old threads with responses from many members in this very thread suggesting or recommending type F to help with a 2-3 flare. No idea if it's valid or not, but it struck me that what type of fluid DD is running probably matters.. maybe it doesn't?

Set the 2nd gear band to 1 3/4 turns. If it helps go to 1 1/2 turns. Kim

I think you gentlemen were correct! My band seemed to be adjusted a little to lose, closer to 3 turns backed off.

Ran the adjusting screw all the way in, finger snug, then backed it out 1 3/4 turns. Took it for a little drive and it didn't flare up like it was. It was however downshifting part throttle and I'd have to let off the gas to get it to shift, but the shifts were quick. I'm going to set it at 2 turns out then re-adjust the kd linkage then see how it does. I tried setting it when I got home but I kept burning the **** out of my arm and hands lol. So now I'm waiting at In-N-Out since thats what the wife and kiddos wanted for dinner.
