Im working on a 67 barracuda for a friend and have some questions about holes in the trunk. They are obviously factory but I dont know what they are for. Was there seam sealer in these holes?

somebody have a trunk mounted battery at one time??

I would appreciate it. I did not take this car apart, just helping a friend fix someone else bad repair work and get it back together. Im familiar with 70+ A bodies, not the older ones.

Ok, that's the hole above the frame rail. I know that gets a plug. How about the ones I have circled in the pics?

I have often wondered what they are for as well. Could they be for a hitch ?
The indent in the sheet metal tells you it was factory made ..

Didnt notice the outer hole circled...
these all could be for assembly line purposes .

Yes, probably alignment holes for assembly. Such holes are all over these cars if you look closely. Im sure the one closest to the quarter panel is an alignment hole. Not so sure on the larger one in the indent. I just want to be sure before I weld them closed or cover them with seam sealer.

Sorry Mike , I guess mine doesn't have those holes, looks like pan and the extensions both have been replaced.

I figured out what the two inboard holes are for. I believe its where the wires pass through for the reverse lights.

Here is my original 67, couple holes are covered with seam sealer on my car, I'll check this afternoon to see about the hole in the recess.

Thanks Alan, that answers my question. Man, all that seam sealer for that little hole. Looks like the other hole was just left open. I think I have some body plugs that size, will just plug them.
Welding on the rear valance tonight then she goes on the rotiserie.

That was the end of the sealer, if you look (at my pictures) you can see the Sharpie outline of where the sealer was at along that seam.

That's where the Superbird wing bracing goes. Everybody knows that.

Those holes are for ventilation for when you kidnap somebody and lock them in the trunk...

Mike do you mind posting progress pics on the rear valance?
Thanks
Steve

Yeah I can post some pics up when I get some time. Its all done and turned out good. Its not really the way I would have normally done it because someone else started the metal work on this car. He failed to complete the car so I picked up where he left off. So the top seam is in a weird place but it is what it is. Should be fine once the bumper goes on.

Here are some pics. Its the best I could do with what I had to work with. Like I said, someone else had already cut the panel out so I was committed to do it this way. Panel is tucked behind the top seam with about an inch of overlap, welded on both sides. Center seam (trunk floor to valance) is plug welded from the inside. Ends were plug welded to quarters. Last pic shows the reverse lights fitted.
