.620 mechanical Purple Shaft?

-
Mushroom cams bridge the gap between a sft and a roller. Ur motor will need to be apart to install the lifters.

No it doesn't, I've done it... Although the lifters do have to be inserted/removed from underneath (in the cam tunnel), all you need is some clothespins and a stiff cardboard or PVC tube cut in half lengthwise!

Hold up the lifters with the clothespins, remove the cam, slide the tube in, drop the lifters into the tube, and fish them forward and out with a magnetic telescoping probe. Installation is the reverse of disassembly except you pull the lifters up into the bore with the magnet. clip them in place, and slide the cam in. Only takes about 15 extra minutes once you get the motion :)

I think I'm going to get the solid .620 purple shaft. I have 4.11 gears. I don't know what converter to get because I want it streetable
Custom converter time.

Pro Torque
Dynamic
Ultimate converters

etc.....

Dead on with the custom converter, especially given the weight of the car it’s in. What has been done to the heads and do you have any flow numbers?

Being from MO myself you going have to show me a video of that procedure.

 Sorry, I didn't make a video... but I promise it can be done without any :BangHead:

There are just very few mushroom cams around any more, since there are so many rollers available. But everyone who's run this Mini-Express has liked it.

Anyhow, on the original subject, I really think the .620 cam is too big for the OP's setup and intended use, likewise the GK mushroom. A .557 or maybe the .590 would be a better match.

I agree also that the .620 is too big. He seems to have it in his head that he needs that cam. The .557 purple would be a great fit. Especially with just a cleaned up head. A 4500 stall 9 1/2 Converter will make him more than happy with this combo. As far as the mushroom lifters go: I have did it that way to. PITA but it works none the less. Kim

Either of those cams seem way to big for a 3800 pound car that is only 12 to 1.
Something in the mid 260’s would seem more likely to not make it a dog to get it to leave.
Definately would go with an 8 inch convertor, not anything else

The 590 isn't a good street cam. Sounds wicked. 271@50 makes carb tuning a chore. The 557 is much better. Good low end power pulls hard up top.

LMAO, I agree. 270@050 is not a street cam IMO, but I know a gaggle that would argue..... IMO, the .557’s duration @050 of 250(+?) is a bit big. It has plenty of duration to get you going pretty quick in the street.

All depends... my 272@.050 is ok on the street - can putt around at under 2000, just need to get the revs up during
:steering:
But I agree, trying to tune it for best street manners is a moderate PITA.
Again, though, I have 451 inches, not 383. If the OP is sticking to Purple Shafts, the .557 is plenty big enough.

Well u know u just can’t help some ppl. They ask for ur help but they don’t really want it cause they already have their mind made up. This is 1 of them. Kim

Hot street and strip car, 295/50/r15s on 15x12 wheels with 3800lb SS springs and Gabriel HiJackers

Nobody builds quick '67 chargers and they are one of my favorite mopars.
Ur not gonna build a quick 67 charger with that little engine and that big cam. Ur going about it the wrong way. Kim

OP, this is a 1 year anniversary :poke: did you ever get that custom grind? How does it run?

Haven't messed with my Charger or 383 since the spring, I'll be getting back to it next month...

The other Mopar got in the way :D

There are a set of NOS mushroom lifters for sale here forever in my hometown. $130 last I checked. craigslist/Orange County/Mopar

I have a spare set of NOS mushroom lifters too... but if I ever wipe the cam, I probably will also spend the $$$ and go to roller.

Also not going with E85 any more...

Mainly because I don't trust I'll still be able to get it with the way the world is going.

So I ditched the 915's and bought a pair of old race ported 452's. Should make my compression 11.5-1 so I can run it on a Shell 93/Avgas mix. I live only a few miles from a airport that sells it.
