1964 Valiant "Get Runnin & Drivin"

You guys are having fun restoring - looks good- old school. What part of Georgia Rusty?

As promised, here is another trip to Gray, but with windows up and no radio so you can "hear it". lol

Seeing it going down the road as it was made to do.....I think of when I first saw the for sale ad on that car and I'm so happy it went to a good mopar fanatic. :usflag::usflag:

What wood are you using for those door panels again?

Those look real nice, and should be stronger than factory.

Are you treating them with something against getting wet?
It happens.

It's Luan 1/8 plywood. Sprayed them with clear first. Got them on today. They turned out ok.

I don't care what anyone says, that looks killer! You both did an awesome job!

Thank you! We're not quite done yet. I am still finishing up the driver's kick panel and then we're going to make up the rear side panels. I am also going to remove and repaint the front arm rests and polish up the handles good when we're done. I just wanted it back together for pictures......and mostly because I haven't driven it in a few days. LOL

LOL According to one guy on this board, nobody can drive that crashbox transmission!!! Like the horn button. Is that the factory wheel? Great job buddy

Thanks! No, that's a sport wheel from Mooneyes. I thought it matched the interior really well. Yeah crashbox. I've never had trouble with them. This one is smooth as silk.

When I first bought my junk old Landcruiser, it had a 283 swapped in. Sounded OK hit on all 8 and didn't use much oil but it had ZERO power. I had converted the vacuum shift transfer case to manual, and the winter before the Mopar went in there, I used to start out, instead of high range/ 1st gear, I'd start in 2nd gear low range and DOUBLE CLUTCH the transfer case into high range LOLOL

Dang that's funny. It musta been one weak bastid.

I believe you can now respectably add 'artist" to your list of many titles.

That looks great and ties the darker red and black of the seats in with the bright red factory interior color.

+1 RRR

Disclaimer- I usually don't care for "moded" interiors, but this has subtle custom befitting the theme of the car written all over it.

Those door panels look great I love that. That is the exact same idea I came up with to do mine except I'm going to try and save the old vinyl of the original panels and put it on the new plywood. The vinyl on mine look ok but the backing is shot, its rotten and warped and falling apart. If that dont work I will just cover it in some vinyl I can buy online.

We've been driving Vixen everywhere. The Escape just sits. lol I do notice that when we park her after being driven and go get a sammich for instance, upon restart, she spins a little more than when cool or cold. She always starts, but the warmer it is out, the longer it takes.

I did some investigating and believe it or don't, there's a company called Cool Carb Technologies - Home that makes some really neato carburetor heat shields. Two pieces of aluminum with polymer in between. They actually make one for the Ford one barrel that happens to fit the slant six perfectly. 25 bucks. I put mine on tonight. We'll see how it does. I installed mine with the thick gasket between the shield and the intake and then a thin gasket between the carburetor and shield. We'll report back on any changes.

Here's what it looks like.

Ran one on the Holley dp on my stroker motor. They work great, but I also had the exhaust crossover blocked. I'm going to get one for the 361 in the Charger.

Thanks for the feedback. The guy is super nice and included a note with his cell number for any questions. It says in the instructions not to use it with an exhaust cross over, so I called and explained what I had. Like I thought, he said what the slant six has is not really considered a cross over. He said as long as the intake was not getting hot enough to burn the paint off I was probably ok. He said those type intakes will melt the polymer. I believe it will work for me. We're gonna find out anyway.

Oh I did have to drill the three holes for the gasket passages through the plate, but that was very simple. I just used the gasket for the template, marked the holes, center punched them and drilled them on the drill press.

I was going to get a heat shield, too, but I just did the slantsixdan fuel rerouting and that seems to have really helped with the heat, and I'm down in SW Florida. He doesn't come around much, but I'd like to thank him. I should've done it a yr. and a half ago. THANKS DAN!

I thought about doing that, but I am pretty particular about how I want things to look. The stock fuel line.....while not in the best place for heat, how the factory ran it looks really neat and clean. I like that and don't want to change it, so I've been looking for something different. Maybe this will work. I don't think I need "much" cooling off as the car does restart every time, it just spins a bit more before it starts when it's hot.

^^^I too have had trouble with HOT fuel and I did slantsixDans reroute, I had a plastic filter on it and I could see how hot the gas got, and it made a huge difference for me. I agree I like things looking stock, but it was annoying to have the slow start hot. Especially if I went to shoot the breeze with a non car guy, and he would say, " I thought that POS was never gonna start!" LOL
Heck, the powers that be are talkng adding more ethanol to our gas!!!

Rusty, another thought for you. Have you seen the Cool Tape from Design Engineering? You can wrap that front section of fuel line, or they make sleeve that slips over the line. Protects everything from the heat.

Also, in the area where it touches the water pump bolt in the front, I added a rubber line holder where it sits against the little metal line clamp
