So, "sudden" storm today, 2+ inches of heavy wet snow and still snowing

My neighbor, (who painted my Dart) got into a big 'ef dump truck which his son operates. They seem to be doing OK. Couple weeks ago he bought a 02 Cummins 5 speed for a snowplow. Today he calls me "some of the parts for the plow aren't here, we need to rent a Bobcat to fullfill some contracts."
So he borrowed my trailer

Is there a question? Hell I don't know

How many of you guys plow "for money" in the winter? How many use a stick?

I thought about plowing for money, nope. The damage done by not knowing the property or whats under the snow could get expensive. To property or plow truck.
Manual trans? Gotta shift regardless what you are driving, clutching would be my downfall.
Knee would give out.
I dont like the idea of my trailer running around on salt covered roads. I usually park it and my dump trailer this time of year.

I plow, but not for profit

I dont think I'd care to do it with a stick

I considered it a couple times, used to know a few guys that did it, but as Tooljunkie said, there is too much risk of damage to make it worth the risk.

Maybe they can make enough money to buy their own trailer....lol. My road is a private road....and I'm the only one with a tractor. It's a quarter mile to the state road. I have a little toy, 23 HP 4wd tractor, and it takes a while. I have to turn the scrape blade around, and push the snow backwards. By the time I'm done....my neck is about broke from looking over my right shoulder for 4 hours or so. I do all of the neighbors driveways, and as much as I can of the apartment complex on our road.

Every once in a while they come in handy. I was not home for this blast but the kids handled it up just fine......once they got the truck out of the "carral".

Oh ya, this one is a 454 4 speed. Been a plow truck from the day it was bought in 89.......not by me.......I would rather have an auto.

On a note of irony, it is up N a guy is starting to fix (replace) the rusted roof. He wants me to go up and retrieve the remains of the parts car in the next few days, so "here we are again" trying to do stuff in the snow LOLOL

That winter was a 'winter' too!!

My FIL gave me his 1989 Jeep Cherokee after his daughter (my SIL) supposedly totaled it. The shop said the frame was bent (it wasn’t). I fixed it up for less than $400 but no one in the family wanted it. So, I found a cheap snowplow in eBay and for $1,000, I had a snow plow/vehicle. I still have it.

2 years ago, I bought a mini-backhoe. I plow my 600 foot driveway and the 700 foot common road out to the township road with the Jeep (it hasn’t snowed since I got the backhoe). One year I helped my BIL fulfill a snow removal contract he had with an apartment complex. After a full day of work, getting handed $200 was a let down (and the last time I would help him). I once drove through the development nearby and tried to plow driveways for free. But everyone thought I was trying to trick them somehow. Oh well.

I do very little gratis snowplowing, for one thing the equipment is old and I would have to fix it. Nobody seems to be "around" when the fixing and gas need to be fiddled with I'm jealous, tho, of the 'bota. The old Farmall is getting difficult to steer, and the more weight on the loader, the "worse."

My neighbor is a good guy and an exception. He painted my Dart, and we help each other out. He always makes things right. I had a rough year with him and his teenager some time back, but the teenager has grown up into a dynamite young man. Neighbor was just telling me the other day how good he handles things. They are good people. There are now two families living across the street in two duplexes, and they are pretty good folks as well. Only POS is the neighbors to the south. They have mean dogs, and park their cars on the street--which causes the snowplows to impact ME. That is going to change the next year we have significant snow, which we did not, last year. I'm going to raise bloody hell next time there is a plow burm around me because of the neighbors cars to the south.

The stupid thing is they have a driveway which they don't use "because of the trees." Why is that stupid? Because the same trees overhang the street where they park!!!

I used a manual trans to plow snow for almost 15 years. Never had an issue. I always used 4 low and granny first to push.

My truck was an 85 ford F250 with the 6.9 Diesel. It would push through a 3 foot high frozen plow berm no problem.

Yeah, no problem. Im out of town until Monday but I will send it out as soon as I get home.

Pm me the address.

Thank you for letting me try to open it!

If you can, send any key blank (cut) samples ....maybe I'll give it a shot?? I also asked that you let me know if I owe you anything??

I will send you all the stuff i have made.
It was my pleasure to work on it. I don't desire any payment.

Thank you.

Well just got back in, it's TWENTY THREE DEGREES at 9AM. I was going to work "in the bunker" today and strung an extension for a portable heater. Unfortunately I messed up and popped a breaker, so I went out to reset and that turned into an hour and a half "project." Shoveled the back porch, then out front the neighbor is screwin around and I decided to move the Cummins, which was parked in the yard, out back. The snow was froze hard and did not want to brush off AND THE DOORS WERE FROZE SHUT. I finally got the pass side open and got it started, then finally got the driver side open. I WILL NEVER UNDERSTAND the stupidity of modern pickup door/ roof design.

Good luck with the lock you guys. I saw something on this sometime back. Looks interesting
