I'm having some trouble getting everything to line up with my pulleys. Motor is a 360 magnum. Im using a slant 6 alternator. I was handed everything else as far as brackets and pulleys in a bucket and was told it would work but it dosent to all line up. It appears to me the water pump pulley isn't deep enough and seems to be sticking out proud of the alternator and crankshaft pulley. Do they make a deeper water pump pulley like 3 inches deep This? This one seems to measure 2.75 in deep but dosent seem to be enough. Or is there something else I have wrong. Thanks in advance

Here's pics if they help

When I put magnum heads on an la block/timing cover I had to put some washers/spacers/shims behind the alternator brackets to move it out

If you move out the alternator bracket, you'll also need to shim the crank pulley out. For the sake of comparison, measure the overall length of the water pump pulley and compare it with the height dimensions listed on these pulleys. You should be able to measure how proud the water pump pulley stands from the crankshaft pulley to determine what length pulley you need. Then it's a matter of putting out a want add or looking at eBay to see if you can find a match.

When I built mine a long time ago the crank pulley and alternator were aligned but the water pump pulley was "in" a bit I took a calipers and found 4 washers the same thickness needed and super glued them inside the water pump pulley Wahla! it worked yes backwoods but it worked

I believe you have the alternator brackets assembled incorrectly. There is no difference between a "slant 6 alternator" and any other, except for the pulley combo and amperage output. In other words, it should fit, if the pulley is correct for the combo. The problem is, there are many pulley combos over the years for various setups, and "it might be" that you somehow have a "mix"

Appreciate the feedback. I'll do some shiming tonight with what I have and then go from there. I must have a mix of a few different year brackets/pulleys. Thanks again

A little clarification needed:
You are running an LA timing cover and water pump, right? Magnum pumps are reverse rotation...
The pulley set is from a '70 and later smallblock, and not a pre-'70, right? The water pumps were different lengths, and therefore, the pulley was a different depth (shallower on pulleys from early pumps).

Yes it is a la timing cover. And I believe everything is 70 and later.

First of all to anybody wanted to space out their fan pulley they sell spacers for that you don't need to use washers though it does work.
Everything else related loose...take and mount the alternator to the head with the bolt and enough washers/spacers to bring it out to line up with the water pump pulley...with the bracket at the water pump loose...then get the correct amount of washers you may need to take up the Gap between those brackets at the pump cause you don't want to be taking it up with a bolt tightening ...or itll bend and break something.

Can you show some pictures of the alternator and brackets from the front also, and some zoomed out a little... What water pump pulley are you running???

Maybe I'm looking at it wrong, but, it looks to me like the water pump pulley is too deep, not too shallow. Can you pull the belt and take another photo?
