Deer season is over for another year. Pretty quick this time. Only sat in the stand for 1 day, Monday, and for 10 minutes Friday afternoon. I built a new stand, (condo) this year and never got to sit in it. I found another spot that looked exceptional the week before the season so I set up a ladder stand there. This guy walked out and I hummed and hawed about shooting him for about 5 minutes because I knew there was a real smasher in the area and then sanity returned and you see the results. He field dressed 192 lbs to go along with his 8 points. Very good looking table fare.

How is everybody else doing?

My son did well this year too. Bow hunting. Grabbed his bow and went for a walk to check his trail cams.

And after checking camera, this guy wasnt on it. A neighbour checked his camera too, and wasnt on that one either. This guy just happened to wander in.

Congrats! Rut is just getting going here in MI so hoping the action picks up!!

Have not had the chance to even get in the woods yet. But that will change soon. My cousin and I make an annual pilgrimage to West-Central Illinois every year before Thanksgiving to deer hunt. That trip is coming up in a couple of weeks.

So jealous. I didn’t renew my contract in Kabul, came back to the states, got stuck. Was supposed to go to Saudi Arabia in April. Got stuck. Waited all year, right before I was going to head to the woods, border opened up. In Riyadh now....
My luck continues.

Season over? You only get one tag? I haven't had any luck yet. I let two small bucks walk yesterday. The moon has got everything cadiwompas here. The deer aren't moving.

Have a great hunt and may the deer gods be smiling on you.

Congrats. Nice deer. I gotta wait a couple more weeks for the WI firearm season :(

The county I hunt has too many deer. Giving hunters 1 buck + 5 anterless tags for the 3rd year in a row. Hoping to see at least one.

Be well and stay safe out the folks

Yup, only one tag here. Our deer population is only about 6 per square mile.

Wow!
I'll bet there's 6 deer on the back part of my property. I have at least 4 does that kinda just hang around, they each have 1 or 2 fawns a year.
There's a couple monster bucks that come up from the Ohio River and rub on a couple trees in the back yard.
Deer are like birds around here. I've been seeing late fawns as well. I had a little one run out in front of me at the end of September.

SLOW! I got a hog a couple weeks ago but the deer are not doing their thing yet. Rifle opens next weekend here. can't wait to get out of my tree stand.

I don't hunt.....have nothing against it I just don't so excuse the stupid question, but why is deer season over? Is that one all you get?

Nice! Lots of meat on that buck. The second one.. not so much.

Wow that's a great buck especially with that low of a herd number. Idk what our head per mile is but we get 5 tags 3 doe and 2 bucks and you can purchase and additional doe if you use all three. The 2 bucks tags are either so technically you can kill 6 does a year. I have never used all my tags most I ever use is 2. Where im hunting now is a earn a buck county meaning you have to kill a doe to earn a buck tag if you kill a buck you have to kill a 2nd doe to unlock your 2nd buck tag. I should have used my first doe tag Saturday but stupidity let one get away from me lol it happens

Really? That's incredibly sparce. You should come down here, they are everywhere. If we don't have 100 or more per square mile in Jones County, I'd be surprised.

You get one with >13" spread and a spike in each east Texas county. ( up to 2 ) So technically I'm done here for the year. however Im a public land guy and I know another spot in another national forest. It ruts a little later and the deer don't taste as good but it was pretty hot last year. Good luck all!
