I know this is a long shot but I’ve got the car back together with 1 bolt left over and a few missing. This is the one that is left and I can not figure out where it went. Already wasted 30 minutes trying to thread it into the block though the trans housing.

3/8" x 1 1/4 USS. a very common bolt size. Hard to say where it goes. Maybe a trans to block brace bolt?
 
Tranny to engine, thermostat housing, upper water pump, fuel pump, starter or bracket to A/C compressor. These are the places that use that bolt. Fuel pump bolt can be different depending on year.
 
Show the top of the head of the bolt. Many times there are markings that give a clue
 
My Dart also had a Ford room mate for 50 years. No swapping of saliva between the two!
 
Does the F mean Ford? The dart had a mustang roommate for many years.

That F on the head is an identifier for the supplier who made the bolt...

Example: the H on the head bolt or main bearing bolt is the symbol for a company called Cold Heading located in Warren, Michigan who makes lots of bolts for the automotive industry...

I don't know which company used the F....

(How the "f" should I know... LOL!!!)

Bolt manufacturers (back when they were made in the USA) each company had a unique marking that was formed into the head of the bolt. That F is the mark of Ferry Cap, a very good bolt manufacturer had manufacturing plants in the Cleveland area at one point in time. Ferry Cap was a big player in the OE automotive bolt business.
 
I tried threading it into the block for a long time and I couldn’t get it. Pulled a bolt out of the whole next to it and it was a different size. Does the block have different bolts in different spots?


Yes, the bolts that go around the bell housing are 3/8" and go from the trans side into the block...


There are two 7/16" bolts that go on the bottom of the block just above the starter on the driver's side and one opposite it on the passenger side that go from the block side and thread into the transmission...

Dis you chase the threads in the block with a tap, and then chase the threads on the bolt with a die??? If you didn't there could be some dirt/debris in the threads that can fight you while installing them... Having clean threads makes things go together much easier... Dirt and debris on the threads can make them jam/stick when you try to assemble them...

The starter side is good to go but I’ll check the opposite side to see if I missed that one.
