Hi guys, checking to see what is the best gasket for a factory carter carb on a 69 340. Motor has the factory manifold on it and is a street motor, rebuilt to factory specs. The insulated one that came in my carb kit has the wide open center section. Factory manifold has the 4 separate holes. Do I need to go with a 4 hole gasket? Any benefit to using the open gasket?

You can run the open gasket. Only the dyno will no the difference between the open and 4 hole.

My question for you is, how thick is the gasket ?
If its the thin base gasket, I would go with an Edelbrock heat insulator gasket. The insulator gasket will help with fuel percolating, and hot restarts.

Thanks! There is a thick insulated one and a thin one in the kit. Was thinking on using the thicker insulated one, just was unsure about it not separating the barrels.

I too asked this question about a 1" spaacer and got about the same answer except was told try them both and see if there is a difference best for your aplication.

I always had issues with the factory air cleaner and hood clearance if I tried to run anything much over 1/4 to 5/16 in thickness. That hood on my Dart is so dang close. Always had to run the factory size thickness on the air cleaner just be sure nothing was touching. Used a drop down air cleaner for a while to get a little more flow but I liked the factory look of the stock air cleaner. I'm weird I know.

Dam. So the RPM Intake I just painted probably won't fit my 68 340 Dart.:BangHead:

Is that an Air Gap ?
The Air Gap is a tick taller than an RPM.
A drop down air cleaner is going to be mandatory, and the factory air cleaners are a drop base, if that's what you are going with.
Either way, a 1" spacer isn't going to happen. If you use the gasket I recommended, or a standard base gasket, you should be good.

Yes Air gap . RPM was a brainfart lol. I was considering a 1" spacer on my stock manifold but stumbled across this Air gap for a decent price.
