Home Depot has a Dewalt oscillating tool with charger and two 2ah batteries for $99. My question is can I use it for bodywork? I plan to replace either my lower quarters or the entire quarter panels on my Duster. Just looking for input before I buy it. Any other uses do I need to know about?

It's a handy tool, but I don't see it being much help doing body work?

This?

i don't see much use in body work unless maybe scraping off undercoating. if you're doing body work, so far I've found 43 items to be the most used and needed. A cut off wheel, an angle die grinder, an air chisel and a drill with a spot weld bit. those tools are 9 bucks each at Harbor freight and i've put them to the test, especially the air chisel and cut off tool.

i have said oscillating tool that came with my 18V kit. I've not used it once on the dart.

On the other side of the coin it might be the perfect tool, with the triangle head sanding pad I was able to knock these areas on real fast, the firewall, about an hour, under the dash (driver side) about half hour.

I was able to get on top of the triangular mount with it.

Tried it on undercoating with different attachments, not so good. Heat gun and putty knife, slides right off
Probably 20 minutes to do this panel.

I will say that if you buy it, you’ll find yourself using it for all kinds of stuff. Some of the best money I’ve spent is on my Milwaukee buzzer, I use it for everything under the sun. The battery operated ones are awesome too, out to the junkyard with 2 full batteries, you can do a lot of cutting with one. Get a battery powered DeWalt sawzall and a ratcheting screw gun and you’ll never look back!

I may just get it anyway. What the hell. Never know when I will need it. I could use the batteries and charger for an old sawzall with one of those adapters.

I have the Makita version and don’t regret getting it. I do feel that they are best for carpentry and around the house stuff. Not body work

If you get one, get brand that is same for drill and other tools. That way you have a spare battery for everything. The oscillating tool I have used a lot on carpentry and remodel.

I use mine around the house for cutting stuff in hard to reach places. Most recently for cutting out underground sprinkler risers.

I literally just used one for cutting out termite rot out of a rental thirty minutes ago. Had not thought about using it to remove rust but I think I'll try it!

Great for cutting sheet rock outlet holes and stuff too

Not sure how well on steel, but used a HF one for cutting thin aluminum siding and worked great. I might have to try it too as I need to learn how to weld and make some floor patches.
