The E49 265 was faster than the 340, but then it was blueprinted, hand built, broken in, stripped down, checked and re-built. Triple Webbers, 4 speed close ration gear box and a Limited Slip Diff with 3.23 gears.
The 340's where initially shipped over from the US to Oz for a race program that never got off the ground. Dumped in a 770 SE, ie a Gentleman's Cruiser. Intentionally strangled so as to not show up the 265. Its a crying shame really. Where the 340 to get even half the attention of the 265 it would have wiped the floor with the 265 and won them Bathhurst.
My 770 was a 318 car but now running a 340 and an Aussie BW 4 Speed. Just need the LSD now.
