HOW ABOUT A 1979 318 V-8 IN MY '73 SCAMP?

-
OP has been "all over the map" on what he wants to do... today, anyway. He needs to decide what he wants and go for it, and stay with 1 plan.

^^^ Yes make a plan and stay. Same way IF you try to build any engine, have a good plan for your intended use and stay.
Like said, IF you change to a v8 from that slant, you will need a v8 K, NO ONE is making the conversions brackets right?
Used radiator, crap shoot
That engine from the boneyard, can't hear it run?? Consider it a core ,unless are lucky maybe.
Can only get on puter at work? Go to library and read on here about making reasonable cheap power fro a 318. Look up Willrun318 here.
I assume the slant rurns/drives, IF so drive it while yo get the needed pats to make the change over.
Make it safe, brakes, suspension, wiring, tires etc. Figure our budget it all ads up!!
You can do it, YOU are an OKIE right!!? You ain't from Nova Scotia or some place?? Right!?? lol

I have made my decision, I bought a 318 from a 1984 Chrysler Cordoba and the transmission, too. There is a HUGE salvage yard about an hour from my home and they basically specialize in engine/trans combinations! The owner let me roam around in his really, large yard last Friday afternoon! I was in car guy Heaven! He's getting it pulled for me to come pick up this week, and was told I wanted all the wiring and brackets they could save and leave with the combo unit. Now, I buy an engine stand and see what I bought? He's good about making it right, if it's not good....he will find me another one. Any suggestion on cam/lifters, carb, motor mounts, etc.? Thanks

allright, so now were committed

start with the engine mounts, because that is the hard to find part
there are only 2 options here (as far as i know)

first of is conversion mounts from shumacher
this is the easy way to go IF you can find them
however, it seems that company went belly up, and unless you get extremely lucky, you will not be able to find them

so, that only leaves option 2
a K frame from a A body that came with a V8

then decide on a 4 barrel intake and a nice 650 carb (i prefer the holley style, but not everyone does)

the cam will be dependent on rear gear and torque converter (i think a comp cams 268 is about the biggest you could run with a stock converter)
so figure out the whole package and go from there

the fact of the matter is, there are dozens of guys on here who have "go to recipes" for 318s that simply work
so do some research on here

2 things
1. Was the 84 cordoba imported from somewhere? As far as I know 83 was the last year for them.
And 2. What will become of the slant 6 and trans? 2b. Where are you located again?
Cuz my son was telling me just yesterday that someone that he works with messaged him to see if we had an extra slant motor and trans around (we don't)

I will check on the that deal? It was in the middle of a BIG salvage yard and it was getting dark, so I don't exactly know for sure? Also, my slant 6 and trans will be up for sale when I get the 318 installed and running? We have winter here in SW Oklahoma where I live....nothing like farther North, but have seen some of our days dip down to 5 degrees and we sometimes have wind chills down in the minus degrees, too!! I have a over-sized garage and will just have the engine working on it at first, then come spring and much warmer temps, I'll be in my shed pulling my motor and trans out.

I find this all interesting but.....this is the Slant Six forum. You are moving out of our neighborhood now.
You should probably start a fresh thread in another location as you move forward. Small Block Mopar Engine? You will probably get more looks too.
There are a lot of people who will help you.
Good luck!

Sorry my friend, I will go to the V-8 section of this website. I am new to these forums, so thanks for the info!
