A friend has a 67 Barracuda 273 he restored. I tried to get him to modify it, 4 bbl, headers, at least dual exhaust but no luck. He has a black air cleaner with a snorkel. It got me wondering, was there ever a 273 pie tin or just a decal that went on air cleaners? Thanks

The decals are available through Year One

Thanks. Do you know what air cleaner they would fit on? By the way, you have a really nice set up in that picture. I used to have a 66 Valiant 273. Bought it from a guy who modified it a little, 4 bbl and nicer cam. He raced Ford 289s and Chevy 283s and never lost. I had it a while and it was fast.

Here's a 273 pie tin, no one reproduces though, only the decal available.

@65dartcharger , do have any installation tricks? We can link this thread to your sale thread.
You make the pie pan a little curvy so the ends will meet. Then I have used contact adhesive on the pie pan and the air cleaner lid. After 5 minutes I put the pie pan on the top and hold the ends together til it dries. Attention when you have a California C.A.P package and the nipple outlet on the drivers side. When you stand in front of the car and looks down the nipple should be at 4.30 . Then you will get a correct routing the the breather on the valve cover.

Have you seen more than one original with this? What was your reference?
I have always liked it to the rear, this is a 2bbl (same air cleaner). Second picture is the same car before restoration showing it more forward.

I never saw either as right or wrong but with the Commando it would be correct only one place.

This is how my wagon and my convertible looks like under the hood.

Whereas these look great, I'm looking for unrestored examples of Commando air cleaners with the nipple to show where the factory put it.

This is a 67 A-Body 383 and the nipple is towards the rear.

Yes, but on early A-body cars with V8 it was to tight to have the nipple towards the brake cylinder. You had the kick-down linkage, the power brake booster, the bulkhead connector and the spark plug wire so it was too tight. My wagon was unrestered as well as my latest Dart Charger and they all had it that way. B-bodies had much more to have the nipple on the backside.
On 273 Commando and the 273 Charger you can also see the way the decal was glued to the lid.

Cool, I wonder if this was still the case in 67.

Never seen an AL 273 'tin', they were all stickers. But the AL looks nice. Does it mount on a standard MP air cleaner?

The originals were aluminum base for the 273 and the outline of the letters. I think the printing was silk screened over the top. They are not like the pie tins on newer air cleaners.

Screenprinted on metallic mylar...maybe like the 340 Four Barrel? I never noticed if they were printed on metal and then were glued onto an air cleaner top, always thought they were screenprinted metallic mylar. Learned something.....
