I have owned, raced and built mopars, more A bodies than anything, since I was 14 years old, first time I have come across this problem. I just picked up my wife a "survivor" 4 door Dodge Dart on the island of Molokai and shipping it here to Big Island Hawaii. It will be her "forever car" daily driver. So, she likes to ride her bike down the road and have me pick her up on the way to work. So, for the first time, I need a trunk bike rack for a classic 1968 Dodge Dart four door! Has ANYONE ever put a bike rack on one of these? It's just the perfect custom touch for my wife, really, who is the best wife that ever wifed in the history of wives, so I am going to make this happen for her. I also happen to have a 9.90 fire breathing 67 Valiant she is very patient with as a source of a place to throw money away.

Check Hamtramck website for factory and dealer options? They had trunk mounted luggage racks I believe?
Add the smallest Reese receiver/hitch possible? Next to no weight so it would be fine.

The easiest way might be by adding a hitch. You can just put in when needed and remove easily when not. Good luck

Make a hitch and buy one of those racks that slide in. On the other hand, the trunk should be big enough to put a bike inside no problem.

My dad had a single speed 10 speed sized bike that he modified the frame to accept two pipe unions so he could seperate the bike in 2 and put it in the trunk of his dart. He only used it once when he ran out of gas, 15 miles from the nearest gas station.

On a more practical note... @jaws had an OEM trailer hitch. He might still have it!

Hitch is likely best. I did have great luck with a generic trunk bike rack years ago on my wife's dodge spirit. It was fully adjustable, had big rubber bumpers on it, adjustable straps that hooked on the trunk lips and it folded in half for storage in the trunk.( when not using it). I recall buying it at Walmart. Just an option...

I had a Graber bike rack that hooked on the bumpers of my '69 Swinger for hauling my Schwinn ten-speed back and forth to college back in the mid-70s. It had straps that hooked in the trunk lid by the rear window. Don't still have that one, but do have a similar one that mounts the same way. PM me a phone number and I can text you a few photos.

Yes, they make generic adjustable bike racks that can be locked into different shapes to accommodate different trunk depths. One thing is, the hooks can chip the paint around the edges of the lid, and the rack doesn't sit far enough off the back edge to keep the pedal or accessories from making contact (we have managed to put several scratches into my wife's Toyota). I think a receiver mounted rack would do a better job of protecting the finish, and would be a lot less hassle to install and remove, once you had the hitch installed.

How do you PM on this site, can't find the PM button on your profile? Sorry, new to site

The PM (private message) is the term used.
Its a "conversation" between you and whomever you choose, unable to be viewed by all.

I am going this direction for certain- then can use the carrier off my jeep as well. Me and the wife work together, so we either take the jeep or the dart.
