I'm putting together a dash for my 70 Dart, out of the car. I disassembled the dash a few months ago and stripped and painted the dash frame. Now it is time to reassemble!

The pipe on the bottom of the dash defroster vents leans either in toward the firewall or out toward the dash. Which is it????

As an aside, I had a set of new repop defroster vents to use. As I have read here before, they don't really fit and would require significant realigning of the holes in the metal dash frame. This sucks!

The repop vents require slight enlargement of the mounting holes. No big deal but would have been better to have done it before paint. I think you want the hose angled in towards the dash.

This is from my 67 dart.

From the look of one of the PAL nuts it looks to have been out at one point.

Also look for part numbers. If it ends in an odd number it goes on the driver's side of the car. ( Please someone correct me if I have that backwards)

Looks like it slants toward the firewall in your pic, I checked which on fits that configuration and the part number ends in 7 (odd) and that confirms it.

It's true that I can fix it, what bugs the sh*t out of me is that I would have to. The fact that somebody couldn't take the time to test fit a prototype before popping out hundreds of them really grinds at me. I finally rooted around in my boxes of stuff until I found a nice set of originals.

I agree. I had my dash powdercoated black wrinkle before I found out the vents didnt fit. Was not too excited about grinding on the freshly powdercoated dash.
Its really a shame. I found that nearly none of the aftermarket parts I put on my car fit as they should.

The vent tabs where the screws actually attach are shaved down on the vents so they clear the center speaker bracket. It's easy to figure out left and right.

Long time ago a member posted a rant about the vents not laying in the dash correct / flat. Reply post was "switch them left and right". His response was "DOH!" LOL

It's not how they lay, without doing something you can't get that far because the three pieces that go through the dash for the nuts don't fit in the @$#!!&* holes. GRRRR!!!!

I did my whole dash when it was on the basement floor. Sorry I'm no longer of help to you :(. Good luck.
