i have success being careful with a mig welder and welding a little stack of weed on the broken stud. Hang a stainless steel nut on it and weld the nut to the stack of weld. Let it cool so its not red. They normally come right out.

I have had good luck doing that if its not recessed. I broke one off in the rear end and put a washer on it and threaded a nut on what was left welded it and it backed right out! When they are recessed I always end up welding the hole closed haha im not that good of a welder yet. Lol
