Watch out on your bolts going into the front of that block when you put your brackets on and tighten down your water pump.
I bought a motor one time that the guy had cranked down a water pump bolt that was to long and bent the cylinder wall and then the Piston stuck.
Wow that's insane. That had to have taken some force.

If it's tight enough to brake off, an easy out probably won't work, but it's worth a try. Just be careful not to break it off or you'll have a bigger problem.

I've had good luck drilling it out and re-tapping to the appropriate size. Good luck! I hate when that happens.
Yea it didn't work I had to end up drilling thru it size at a time careful not to get into the original threads. And then taped it. I managed to save it and its still the same size threads

That's actually a pretty common issue. I've seen people tighten that particular bolt (too long) until it breaks right through the cylinder.

And kudos on getting that stud out! You should be proud of that one. That's takes some skill.

And the patience of Job, which I didn’t have. Not even close.

Yes between a 1/8 to a 1/4 inch. I think he was using the bolt that goes thru the alternator brackets on a no bracket hole. Idk but he screwed it up real good.
Damn you making me nervous. I'm sure im ok tho because none of mine had any hard or tight spots going in. And I cranked it over since I put it together and didn't feel anything.

Unfortunately I have alot of practice. I Unfortunately am stronger than I realize and break a lot of bolts. I had a old man tell me one time at work damn wormie (that was my nickname) your strong as an ox but GD your stupid! Hahaha we worked in maintenance and I was always tighting stuff he could break loose! Lol

Not trying to scare you. Trying to forewarn you so you don't make a bad mistake.

I have success being careful with a mig welder and welding a little stack of weld on the broken stud. Hang a stainless steel nut on it and weld the nut to the stack of weld. Let it cool so its not red. They normally come right out.

Edit... weld not WEED! lol, haven't done that for century's.

I have had good luck doing that if its not recessed. I broke one off in the rear end and put a washer on it and threaded a nut on what was left welded it and it backed right out! When they are recessed I always end up welding the hole closed haha im not that good of a welder yet. Lol

Good idea to use a piece of wire or similar to measure depth and match bolt. Will do that swapping my LA to Mag water pump after being apart for a while.

Yea that's exactly what I did lol. I got a little worried reading the post about that. So I took my bolt out and took a coat hanger wire and carefully pushed it thru till I felt it make contact then marked it and compared it to my bolt. Im good I got over a half inch. I bought a bolt kit and it came with the four long bolts all the same length instead of the 2 long and 2 longer ones like came out. They seem to be fine and fit really well and look good too. I tried to clean up my old bolts to save some money but I thought iv spent all this time and money why not spend another 60 bucks and have good new matching hardware? I'm extremely happy with the results and im glad I did.

There's nothing like a little piece of mind!

Do you happen to remember what the approximate measurement was by chance? The one with the coat hanger.

I didn't measure it. I just marked it with a sharpie.
