im lost guys & not a mechanic , a very shade tree, my interior lights quit coming on all of a sudden , noticed a guse was blown , found out the plugs that were in my 273 were too short , put longer plugs in , no start , figure hey its just my luck the coil thats on the car **** the bed its been leaking fluid anyway, 28 bucks later , new coil still no start , im getting fire to the coil but none out to the plugs, what the hell would cause this , 8 broken plug wires that are less than 9 months old ??

Take a look in the distributor cap. Make sure the button on top of the rotor isn't burned up.

Could be a bad wire from the coil to the dist . or,if it's points the points or condenser could be bad or out of adjustment If it's points turn on the key to run and open & close the points with a screwdriver while holding the coil wire that goes into the center of the dist cap about 1/4 inch away from the block by bare metal using insulated pliers .If you get a spark there the condenser and coil are good so set the points to proper gap and it should work.

If you haven't already check your coil to distributor wire. If ran before you did something, go back and check the things "you" did 1st. If I understand it you were able to fix your interior lights?

Fuses don't blow without a reason. I think I'd explore that a bit more to find the cause. If all you did was swap plugs and now it doesn't start, either the plugs have no gap, or you put the wires on wrong and the firing order is off. Usually you'll get a backfire doing that however. Now, if you did other things with the ignition......

Here's a part number for a radiator that should work Spectra Premium CU511

have not fixed the interior lights, replaced the fuse, that didn't fix it. Not sure what's going on. This old car has been such a nightmare I wouldn't have it if I hadn't inherited it. but I am a Mopar fan and despite the color of the car, the body style has actually grown on me quite a bit I just want to get it painted after I get it running correctly of course.

Did fuse blow quick as you installed it?
Brake and dome are on the same fuse so no dome lamp is warning of potentially no brake lamps. Not a lot about the dome lamp circuit that blows the fuse but with 50+ year old wiring, anything is possible. Faulty brake lamp switch or faulty turn signal switch can blow the fuse ( brake lamp circuit is routed through the turn signal switch ).

I hate to sound like a downer, but it's a 55 yr old car It's going to have issues. If you're not handy at working on things you need to do one two things learn as much as you by reading forums and reading a service manual and see what you can do. If that's not working you'll have to find someone you trust that can and probably pay out for it. The reality it's really hard for us to help you over the Internet if you're not sure dealing with overall.

I was curious about that post too. Was he looking for a radiator somewhere in his questions?
:eek:I'm not sure either I think it was for another thread, I'm really losing it:realcrazy: or I think I'm just old!
