galen govier

I agree. And here's my GAYlen story.

A good friend of mine who lives in Warner Robins, has an original 66 Hemi Charger. Numbers car. Beautiful car. He bought it in 1970 off a used car lot in Warner Robins. The car has been local all it's life. Bought new in Warner Robins. Traded back to the same dealer in Warner Robins. Barry bought it used from that same dealer who sold it new. Growing up, even I knew about the car, because even though Barry is a bit older than I, we had several friends in common growing up. Everybody in car circles in this area knows the car. It has an extensive paper trail too. Barry has every bit of paperwork on it, from every repair it's ever had. Even warranty stuff from the original dealer.

Anyway, Barry and another mutual friend were at Carlisle one year. They run into Govier. As Barry had already corresponded with him about the car, he reintroduced himself. Govier said something like "Oh yeah, you're the guy with the unoriginal Hemi car". He said that because Barry's car didn't come with boxed in leaf spring mounts. Being an automatic car, I was unaware that they came like that. At any rate, Govier completely dismissed the car during Barry's previous discussion about a year earlier and then again in person. Now Barry is a real nice guy. Real Christian southern gentleman. But he said and I quote "That Galen guy was a real asshole" LOL
It's also quite possible that it was an early 1966 build, and just never got the boxing plates. Quality control wasnt the best back then, and sometimes early build vehicles didnt get certain parts they were supposed to for whatever reason.
