Black M Code GTS at Mecum

Yeah, he’s a little too much, but my opinion of him has risen with his great taste in cars. He probably has a live-in mechanic/chauffeur who waxes it daily.

School of Rock has been the only thing I have even remotely liked him in so far.

Where I see a conundrum is that while the price of complete cars seems to be decreasing, the price of parts seems to be going through the stratosphere. I just saw a '70 340 air cleaner on eBay for $795. I saw a Hemi starter heat shield for $850. It may turn out to be like it was 20 years ago when a Mopar was worth more in parts.

did they sell at that price?
What I see more and more is a part re-listed, and re-listed, and relisted until eventually it sells. At this point neither has, but I would wager that within two months they will, at that asking price.

I was cringing watching him wash that car. He asks if there is a wrong way to wash a car. Yeah, don't use a sponge, it will scratch paint, particularly black paint. I also don't like dumping water down old cars. It gets in the crevices and stays wet. That car was clean enough he could have used a microfiber cloth and a spray on lubricant.

Another guy brainwashed by the expensive car wash hucksters. A sponge like that will not scratch your paint, it's not like it's a kitchen sponge with a scrubber. If you leave a bunch of dirt in the water bucket you're dipping the sponge in that might scratch your paint, but let's be real, it will take DECADES to wear your paint down like that. Water? Oh god. It's not a sugar cube. That car has seen less water than 99.9% of cars it's age. And he's in SoCal, the humidity is probably 9%, it won't stay wet.

Besides, I'm sure Jack Black can afford to have it repainted every few years if he so chooses. Yeah, yeah, insert pitiful whining about it being the original paint here. If someone was actually driving the damn thing it would have needed a couple re-paints by now, time to catch it up.

If you spend more money on wax than gasoline you're part of the problem.

Geez, what's with the attack.

"Another guy brainwashed by the expensive car wash hucksters."
No, wrong. I've owned black cars for over 50 years. I know how to take care of them to not "repaint them every few years".

If you spend more money on wax than gasoline you're part of the problem."
What does that mean? What is the problem?

I have not one problem what he did with his car. The reason being is I love seeing the car being loved. You can tell he is trying to have fun with it and show off his new prized possession. We also have to understand not everyone knows the proper way to do all things related to cars. Not jack black and definitely not DentalDart... :)

Edit- i didnt see the posts right before this, and hope you know I wasn't trying to offend in any way. My apologies if it was taken in any other way than me wanting to say I enjoy him enjoying the car.

I would drive that M code and wouldn’t blink an eye lid even it it was a 1 off special Hemi 1 of 1 . I couldn’t give a rats arse, don’t get me wrong I really take care of my cars and I’m very Anal and by my mates that say I’ve got ocd to an extent but to let it just sit there is more criminal than driving them. Enjoy it where not on this earth for a very long . And yes I do have conversations with my Mistress and she does listen . Lol:p

I would love the opportunity to own an M code even if it’s black. Not a big fan of black cars, really hard to maintain the paint especially here in the Phoenix area. I would imagine the car was finely detailed before it went across the block last January. If that’s the case it probably was buffed out to remove fine swirl marks and scratches.

I have to say I thought Jack Black was good in some of his roles, especially High Fidelity with John Cusack which I believe was his first movie. But when I heard that he bought and is ga-ga over the moon about an M-code 69 GTS, I became a huge fan. I have an M-code GTS myself, and they are the most under rated collectors car out there. Everybody can agree that a 340 Dart is a better balanced car, 383 cars could come with a 4-speed and I’ve owned both of those, but it was always lurking in the back of my mind that Chrysler stuffed their biggest V8 into their lightest car, and i wanted one. So congrats to Jack Black, we are a proud group.

Maybe he'll join FABO and talk about burning the hydes off it with his boy. Wouldn't that be cool. I think he loves that car so much...just like all of us here, he'll take loving care of it. If you listen to him talk it's obvious, at least to me, he's loved these cars since he was a kid and almost every family in the US has had some variation of it at some point in their lives. Either as High school daily driver hand me downs or our Mom's grocery getters to our older brothers street rippers, these cars are etched in childhood and adulthood memories. I love that we so want to keep them whole and on the road. They keep disappearing more and more every day.
So...thank you my FABO brothers and sisters for keeping these alive in reality and in past memories as we relate our stories to each other every day.
Rant over. :soapbox::thankyou:

I really liked that low Mileage Survivor Black GTS at Mecum last week.
I was in the bidding for a while, but had to pull out at the end.
Does anyone here know who bought the car?
I would like to keep tabs on it in case it becomes available down the road.

That was one nice GTS...…….

Thanks
Matt M
Do you have a link to it?

I seen on here, about a year age where someone said they only made automatics. That's not correct as I knew of one that was a 4 speed. 69 Barracuda M code.

I probably would never even remembered the car except he went to do a burn out in a gas station he worked at but had it in reverse not first and backed straight into a wall. Messed it up real bad.
