Helping a nephew with a 360 build (2.02 J heads, Mopar .474-280 cam, mostly street driven) and I noticed that the Crosswind is about $120 cheaper than the RPM. But, I think I remember reading somewhere that the Crosswind has a smaller port cross sectional area. Is this true? If so, I'm guessing it wouldn't matter much with this mild build, but if he wants to upgrade the heads and cam down the road with, let's say, mildly ported Eddys., bigger cam, would the Crosswind start to become a bottleneck? Thanks.

Yes it is smaller. Forgot my measurements though. My 360 had mag heads and had great low and midrang was not built for rpm, so not sure what it would take to bottleneck your combo.

To save money now on a mild build, sure, OK, not a bad choice. In the future, maybe not so.

IF the change goes to a RPM and the build gets aggressive, move to the RPM & pay for porting. It's a lot of dough up front but very well worth it in the long run.

I do think we have a few fellas here runningnin the upper 10's with a Edelbrock RPM intake & heads both ported.

One is made in China, One is made in the USA.
Go with the Edelbrock.
if it's anywhere close to a toss-up, I favor USA made. Keep the jobs, keep the money here. That's one of the reasons, I drive a Mopar in the first place. I don't buy or even work on Japanese, Korean, or Chinese cars. If you have a choice, I don't understand why you would bite the hand that feeds you.

I agree, even though I did purchase a crosswinds for one of my engines due to the dual bolt pattern for a magnum swap, didn't want to go with the magnum air gap because of the funky thermostat/bypass location, as I was using the mag heads on an la. I have an rpm air gap sitting on my shelf for my next 360 build.

Yeah, I hear ya and agree, but it's someone else's money, just giving him options. Thanks.

If the Crosswind has smaller cross sectional area, would it be better on a 318 than the airgap?

FWIW............

Several years ago Adney Brown of Performance Crankshaft, Roseville MI used a Crosswind intake on his 318 entry for "Engine Masters", he made 477hp at 6500rpm............

There is crosswind intake on my 360 and my new daily driver is 2017 Honda Civic Hatchback turbo, but I love my '73 Mopar.

I had both next to each other and the plenum is the only thing smaller, and not by much. The air-gap had some funky looking runner dividers too, looked like the snake river compared to the Crosswinds. Neither were outside a Felpro gasket. Both could have been gasket matched with a file. My Crosswind was polished too...

I doubt that Edelbrock moved its foundries to China. it. Vic Edelbrock Jr. always makes a big deal out of proudly made in the USA. I believe a few PARTS for things like superchargers are sourced outside USA, but that is the extent of it.

I assume you mean foundry, not forge.

is there any proof of this? Or is it one of those "my buddies cousin's best friend said, ...." things.

Just a "my step-uncle's brother-in-law's exterminator said" things

I dunno, thought I'd read that somewhere on the web a while back, probably about someone else.

someone probably saw a Crosswind and said "So thats where Edelbrock is sourcing their intakes..." and the rumor takes flight. They still sand cast alot of their legacy intakes. Permanent mold foundry (they have both) does heads and newer stuff.

hahaha. You can't believe everything you read on the Internet! hahaha. I think the President and his circle of friends call it "fake news", even if it's legit. I call it disinformation. The tobacco industry used it for years to cloud the issue of health problems from smoking. Lately, you have the Russian hackers, and Wiki leaks trying to sway public opinion. You really have to be careful reading stuff on the internet. Sometimes it's not easy to figure out the truth.

I will say I like the crosswinds dual bolt pattern, not sure why edelbrock wouldn't add this other than for the fact if you switch heads you'd also have to buy another one of their intakes.

I was considering a crosswinds for the engine I'm building, it's a magnum block that will have magnum eddy heads (which don't offer the LA intake bolt pattern) and I want to retain the LA timing cover and water pump.

Exactly what I was thinking when I did buy one. It also has an extra coolant hole for a sender/sensor at the rear of the intake which was nice for running a mechanical temp guage along with the factory sender as well. Came with plugs for the holes, seemed decent for the money, fit well. The ports were smaller at the head than the rpm air gap, but nothing some quick porting couldn't fix.
