need opinions on putting a flip top gas cap on a 65 dart...

I put one in my swinger, looks right at home. I welded in a patch from a barracuda. The adapter works but I dont like how it sticks out.
As you can see, there was just barely enough room between body lines for the dish.

I posted a thread on the same subject so as to decide to use my adapter. IDK hiw to link that thread but a quick search brought it right up. Anyway I decided to go with the stock gas cap and not use the adapter
I have a filler neck & the inset piece from a 67-69 Barracuda if interested. PM me for pictures & more information.
Just guessing that you'd need the filler neck from a Barracuda coupe or convertible... the fastback had a different pipe shape that enters the floor at different angle, and takes a different gasket. Of course, a 65 trunk floor won't be the same as a 67-69, anyway, so you may have some mods to do.... couldn't say.
The filler neck can be modified, we cut one up & adapted it to fit a 51 Henry J that was 340 powered.

The ones that are just stuck on always look like a pimple. Gotta recess that metal like @MoparMike1974 did to get it to look good.
As I said, I have the recess piece & the filler tube from a 67-69 Barracuda. If interested, PM me for pictures.

I saw photos of one, decades ago, that had been "frenched" in the quarter. Basically the guy built a floored cylinder just deep enough to let just the crown of the cap protrude slightly. It was notched for the hinge and the latch.

I think if you can come up with a configuration that you like, then go for it.
I always wanted to do something like that to my 66 barracuda, but it took awhile for me to figure out a concept I liked. This is what I came up with that I liked. Not for everyone, but I think I’ll be happy with it when it’s done.

Did it to my son's 65 B'cuda with a recess from a 67-9. Putnit in the original 65 location and used the original 65 filler tube. In hindsight, we should have cut it in higher up on the qtr and modified the 68 notch tube.
