Ran into this tonight on Roku / "Watch Free Flix" or Tubi. The story of Richard Byrd in Antarctica and the exploration mostly by aircraft up into "modern times." Just incredible.



Also shown was the colossal and failed "snow cruiser" which were "going to be used" to cruise around the snow in comfort while hauling an aircraft on top. They could not get out of their own way

I can’t understand why Good Year didn’t put any tread on those tires :realcrazy:

pretty neat how they used coolant to heat them and they were warm, and it could provide them shelter up to a year! Awesome machine but a fail, the last picture of it has me curious to what happened, probably at the bottom of the ocean by now. Ifs probably well preserved, maybe Robert Ballard could find it and bring it to the surface, it might still start lol
 
I'm watching this AGAIN tonight about the 3rd time. There is lots of interesting details and photos / clips. There is even a short clip of an FPN/36 QUAD RADAR same as I maintained at NAS Miramar
