The bumpers on my 1973 Duster look just like those on the 72, but will they fit. No one lists bumpers for a 73.

No. Unless you swap the complete front clip.

The rears might be doable; but I can't say for sure. I'm sure someone will chime in on those. If you have the 5mph bumpers, you'd also need to get the non-impact bumper brackets for the '72 bumpers.

To elaborate a bit on what Professor Fate said.....Front bumpers are a different style as shown in the pics. Rear bumpers will interchange. 1973 had standard bumper brackets front and rear. 1974 started with the "shock absorber" style brackets in the rear and I believe the front started late in that model year. Not a simple bolt-on swap to standard brackets.

Skip, Do you have front & rear pics of the car so we can confirm what year you have? It's always possible that somebody already swapped the whole '73 front clip for a '72.

If you happen to run across any, some '74 Duster bumpers can also have standard bracket bumpers as well as some Valiants/Scamps. The front bumpers you DO NOT want are the ones with the extra bumper bolts on either side and just above the license plate area.

Forgot to look at the car pic you already had to the left of your posts!

Good info! I wasn't positive if the impact bumpers started in late '73 or in '74.

I saw somewhere on FABO where the 1/4 panel was different; you could use a '72 bumper on a '73, but there was an extra space in the 1/4 panel indent. If you tried to put a '73 bumper on a '72, it would hit the 1/4 panel due to the smaller bumper relief.

Just to add something - the front bumper on my 73 Sport was trash. I found one from a 74, with shock mount holes, and had it show chromed. Using my existing 73 mounting brackets, I was able to get that 74 bumper to fit really well. Took some cutting and welding of the brackets but it can be done.

72 bumper on a 74 Duster. Trim the plastic filler to blend into the bumper
