Stop in for a cup of coffee
The bigger issue from my perspective is that car makers have always had the idea that vehicles are disposable. They don’t want them to last too long or be serviceable in a way that extends their life. But the service life continues to become longer and new replacement vehicle more expensive...cutting into profits over time.
Just today, I took my 2012 Chrysler 300 to the dealer for an annual inspection and an oil change and the first thing they said to me was “Would you like to sell it? We can do an appraisal while it’s here and make an immediate offer. We can also offer you a deal on a new vehicle.”
I told them “Ummm...no. It’s not for sale and if you think you can jack up phony repair issues to motivate me, think again. Screw with me on a State Annual inspection and I will make it my mission to get your inspection license yanked. Do we understand each other?”
“Yes sir.” was all they said.
They know I am friends with the owner of the dealership, so I am sure they will toe the line.
Point is, they want to push to get me out of my 9 year old vehicle and into a new one because they need the new vehicle sales and the used market is hot with people knowing that a used vehicle is a better value and will last a good long time.
