New 418 is done. Have a black and red 850 Quick fuel brawler carb to go on it yet.
Wanted the black with red trim look. Think it will look good in the engine bay.
Eddie heads, howards flat tappet, excellerator, 12.5 compression, small tube headers. Not gonna be anything fast, but should be fun for a tractor. Goal was something tame enough to allow the 8.75 to continue to live off the foot brake

Looks sharp! I'd call it black widow!

Just about impossible to find those valve covers any more. Too bad, they were pretty cool.

Very nice !

Looks very nice. I’m sure it’ll haul the mail! I’d like a picture of the rocker gear ;)

Found them on here actually after looking forever. They were brand new. Cheesy actually, just hope they hold up.
They BARELY clear HS rocker gear
They weigh nothing and thats their allure.
I sold a gold set, still have matching light gold air cleaner and a separate steel chrome moroso cover set.
Should run hard through 65-6900 rpm, maybe more.
From there is where the bigger primary would carry it .

You can buy chrome valve covers and get them powdercoated with transparent red, blue, or yellow and approximate that anodized look but with durability.

Looks nice. Any more detailed specs on engine,hp torque output. What do you plan on putting it in, I'm running an 8.75 and looking what might be considered the limit on foot brake.

VALVE COVER, HOLD DOWN, MOPAR, CHROME

If those are the really thin lightweight aluminum Moroso valve covers, you may want to consider these to help them seal and not bend.
I used these back in the 70s. I am suprised to see they still list them since they don't show those valve covers available.

340, 40 over, no fill, billet 2 bolt caps, plate honed, zero deck flattops, 58cc eddies.
the heads go low 270’s at 550 lift. Cam is 565 lift. I forget the lower numbers, but they are very solid. I ran this same cam in the 360 that was in it.( 260/264... 565/565)Cam is on 106, was installed at 102 per Howards’s. In this motor, put it in at 104, hoping to take a little bottom out of it and add some top... we will see.
The excellerator is port matched, this will be the first time i have tried an 850 on a smallblock. Almost always 950’s or dominators on stouter stuff
Headers are just 1 5/8 Dougs, i have 3 inch Cook’s bullet shootout mufflers i run behind them. Know they arent optimal, but i had them.
Car is 69 dart. All steel, flat hood, weighs 3310 with my 330 behind the wheel, maybe a tiny bit more, unless i lose some weight before season starts.....275 drag radial, 4.30 gear.
I will have the 8 inch convertor set to about 4800 flash, as i suspect the torque peak will likely come in a bit before that.
Guessing peak horsepower should be around 6200-6300.
Probably shift it at 6500 ish.
I am thinking it will run fine with the gear and the small head in the 1/8, but be nosing over in the 1/4 and want a 4.10 gear better.
Hoping it will run 1.43 or so 60 foot, and 10.70’s at 124/125 once sorted out, which shouldn't take long.
Figure it will make +/- 530 ish if it was on a dyno, just a guess......
Should be a tractor. Probably best served pulling a farm implement around, but we will race it and see.

Gonna put it on the dyno and spin up the PTO?

It’ll be one of those fun combos that you’ll be able to leave the hood on.... I’m finding that thought very appealing as years go by.

i hear ya. Low rpm, no maintenance, as long as it doesn't hurt rearend, shouldn't have to fool with it at all.
Exactly what i wanted. Putting full fire suit on, window nets, licenses.... those days are over for me.... and, i am actually enjoying getting chased all the time. I am much better judging guys closing on me than the other way around

Yep, when it became work just to race thats when I started selling stuff. I’d rather have a 12 second car I can drive on the street than a 9 second bracket car any more.

I like it Don. Is that a Innovators West damper I see?

I agree with you on the rpms 62-6400, maybe a little less. My 408 was only 10.8-1, the heads flowed in the mid 290's and ran a 260/264° @ .050", .628/.633" flat solid cam. It liked to be shifted at 64-6600, anything more or less and it slowed down.

Man I love everything about it gorgeous Abody Stout motor I wouldn't underestimate it!

yep, IV dampner. Might be right on shift points. Will play around with them.... if i cant figure it out... will consult an Allis Chalmers service manual. Lol
I have less lift, less head and less header than you had. Dont expect mine to run anywhere near as good as your’s did..... we will see. If its a real dog i might entertain a header swap, but these little ones i have fit so darn nice.
A local guy boogered up the short turns enough that air gets turbulent past 550 or so on these heads. Guy who just worked them knows what he is doing They dont flow the big numbers but my guy said under the curve i am going to be very pleased. Just have no experience with such a head.
But i did go almost 119 several times with them much worse than they are now, and on a 10 to 1 360.... so i have some hope.

WOW, she is beautiful !
I like the parking spot for it, I wonder if I can talk my wife into parking my dart (when finished) in the living room of our home?

haha.... everybody seems to like that.
Its actually the show room of the car lot i own

It'll run hard.

Thanks for the info. I'll tell you it damn near sounds like my current set up. Alittle less compression 11.1 and only a 750 looking to try a older 950hp with a 260@.050 cam and the 1 5/8 tti headers. Lowered the rear gear from the 4.30 to the 4.10, just didn't want to turn 6800-7k. now with 4.10 I shift 6500.
