I take the winter to redo the painting of the rear floor of the Dart and protection of the roll.
two and a half weeks of work to thoroughly clean the earth, the peeling paint, the roll.
once the surface is clean, cleaning with thiner, protection of the metal with a rust converter, protection of the metal.

For the spring I hope: change the complete exhaust, the fuel supply system, rear shock absorbers, all the silent blocks, pushrods, valve covers, brake master cylinder, rear brake hoses, if possible the fuel tank. 'gasoline, (I saw at classic industries), lubricate the spring leaves well.

my workspace is very small, I have trouble organizing the dismantled parts, the space for the new parts.
and no way to work outside, it's too cold for me.

yesterday I work until the evening, to dismantle the old exhaust manifold, what a nightmare, a lot of work to do alone, and besides I was angry with myself because I made scratches on the paint of the compartment engine. tomorrow I dismantle the right side.

hang an old blanket or towel, or use painters tape, and cover up the inner fender to keep from scratching the paint.

I scratched the body, really when taking out the exhaust manifold. you are right, it is necessary to protect much better. my blanket fell just as I was going against the bodywork.
the most difficult is to see the collector practically out, but you have to climb the car another 2 centimeters.

like all my old cars, this Dart has the same criteria when buying the vehicle.
Healthy bodywork. my job is engine preparation, and the restoration of old engines, I am not a bodybuilder.
in this project the goal is only to clean very well, treat the sheet metal, and protect it for the future. I'm not going to remove all the old paint to completely refurbish.
I sand the old paint not well fixed and see you soon, I will redo the paint as original if I can afford it at home.

at each piece, a certain time of our life devoted to making it work as well as possible.
why so much dedication to revive a multi-year car?
my wife owns a 2019 Nissan Micra, very pleasant to drive in town.
But the simple fact of starting the 440 in the garage, is already a real happiness for me.
it brings back my childhood, the beautiful American cars on the streets of Sao Paulo.
Here in Brussels in Belgium the authorities want to close all gas pumps in 2030.
how sad

the weekend 24/01/2021 I work a little, and I start to assemble the exhaust manifolds. for the moment they are too close to the steering box. I put the fixing studs back on the cylinder head, so no water leaks .
