I don't know, I'm not against new technology but I never had issues with a regular lead acid battery. I had a few optima batteries in my boat and had a failure after a year on the first one and a then the other failed after the second year. Maybe it was old stock and they replaced them under warranty so I really shouldn't complain. But I run trickle charges and never had a lead battery fail that quick.
