Post Office strikes again

-
I wouldn't expect a lady postal delivery to deliver a 120 lb or so box if she couldn't carry it. There has to be some sort of limit to protect the mail carrier, not just to make money.
Well here again let’s change the job to fit the female. I was witness to this first hand in the 70’s and 80’s with the watering down of firefighter standards.

According to what I've seen , the USA has the best postal service in the WORLD . Hard to believe , isn't it ? The USPS was never designed to process freight . their sorting machines are designed to withstand a 30lb. max . I worked in a distribution center for over 8 years . The USPS did all of our shipping . We filled 12 road trailers a day and 20 trailers during peak season . The USPS could NOT process it all . We used to laugh when the MDS was overwhelmed and road trailers were parked in the street waiting to be processed . By the same token UPS/Fed-Ex can't handle mail and small packages . they fall through their system . FYI

USPS...has become a joke. Just cost me $15.05 to ship 2.5 pounds of smoked cheese....one of the reasons I am dragging my *** on getting it done for the few folks on here wanting some....
It took 5 days for a first class package to make it from the processing plant here in Spokane to our PO Box in Nine Mile Falls...a total distance of about 16 miles...

The 70 pound limit is not unrealistic. I worked in the plant, all of our containers had weight limits. There is a big aluminum one called a BMC

we were curious how heavy it would be with brick layed bundles of magazines. We filled it right to the top. Thing as damn near 8k pounds. It would not even roll, we needed to fork lift it on the scale.

The 70lb limit is meant more for carriers and less for the mail handlers.
You guys had equipment to handle it, I had a canvas bag.
When I ever had anything that weighed more than a few pounds, I cut it from the park and loop and dropped it later.
It was impossible to shove so many packages into a mail bag and you certainly couldn't place anything heavy on a 2 mile park and loop.

The 12x12x8 is an APOFPO flat rate now. Ship it to a buddy on a navy base and he can deliver it to you. I always pitch the UPS simple rate option, available ONLINE ONLY. Its back to CID of the box itself and its YOUR box. So ship that slant six cylinder head for $25 buck again! (kidding, but I bet a LA head could ship for that!)

I would think the solution for the heavy stuff (over 30 pounds) would be leave a notice on the mailbox or door to come to the PO to pick it up themselves. The person who sent it did that.

They made us take it out.
Can't tell you how many times I'd get stopped on the route by people asking where their packages were.

I will say this, our rural UPS lady driver, shows up at our place always late in her day about 5:30-6 PM. Then she travels 1 hr to Conroe to put up the big truck and then an hour home. Then an hour back to Conroe to start over again the next day, 5 days a week. She is tough!! She is not big and not that young. Tough!
And some days I have no notice anything is coming and she opens and shuts our gate to drive it to the house. I tell her just leave it at the road!!!
Remind me to buy her somehting nice next XMas.

Glad you posted this. Our post office has no city routes at all. Our carriers are mostly ladies and they bust their *** six days a week. They are out right now in this mess getting the mail to the boxes.
Good to see some support for the people that actually DO THE WORK. The bean counters and suits at the top are the problem.....

The lady I mentioned works for UPS United Parcel Service. But, our rural mail carriers USPS, are out delivering mail when they should not be on the slick roads right now!
I had a 65 Dart 5-6 yars ago, the rural mail carrier that drove it admitted it had some 400,000 mi on it. Maybe he exaggerated a little, maybe.Yep the compression was low but did not smoke or knock!!!! It had sat many years and the first time I got it running I had to pour about 1/2 a qt of 30 wt. down the carb to get it enough compression to start!

My son once lived in a rural town in MS a block from the PO. They made him get a PO box. When asked why he was told no trucks went past his house.
Trucks went by his house constantly.
Hos father in law was a rural mail carrier in AL. Used nothing but A bodies.

Our rural carrier will not deliver packages in our 'hood. Leaves a ticket and you have to go to the Ford PO. Thing is...it is north of us.....good 15-20 minute drive. Spokane is East...much easier just to get a PO box.

Not all of us. When I started in Jersey we had no parcel sorter....I was the guy loading the belts for the clerks. We also had to unload trailers by hand. Sears catalogs....good times. Dip **** that loaded the trailer put the first stop on the nose of the trailer..so I had to empty 70% of the trailer to get to our junk....guessing the excruciating back pain I am feeling must have came from.....

I feel for you man!
I was at the end of the Sears catalogs and JC Penny catalogs.
I hated toting those heavy ****'s
Just when I though I'd seen the end of those, ULine popped up and said "Surprise!"

Yeah USPS has definitely taken a turn for the worse. I’ve had two or three packages over the last couple of years go from the lower 48 to Hawaii and then back to me here in Alaska. It made absolutely no sense whatsoever but that’s what they did.

WOW !

Will it arrive? Who knows...but VA isn’t that far. I wonder what stories this a body part could tell ??
