High revving 340 stroker questions

-
The thing is do you want a "race car" or a "street car "? they are 2 different animals. The street car should be built for long term durability. Like the difference between a NASCAR engine that must live for 500 miles or a drag engine that onlky has to last a few seconds. Different requirements, different builds. High lift cams, low spring life, Worn springs, lower rpms and on...
A 360 is a bored and stroked 318 but with a stronger bottom end block. A 340 is an overbored 318.
a 340 is not an over bored 318. The 273/318 block is totally different then th 340 and much weaker. Even the core plugs are are relocated. Here are two we have here for rebuild they are sitting side by side. We are always carrying them around here. LOL!

My question is why spin it that high? You have enough tire that you can hammer it. Make the torque work for you. Less wear and tear on parts. I mean basically your have a clean sheet of paper other than it is a 340. For 10’s put the best stock port configuration head on it thats is well ported and you’re there and you’re not changing valve springs every year. If you want to hear rpm’s get a R5P7 and let it sing.

I would go stroker, less RPM = easier on parts = live longer and potentially cheaper.

For what its worth, my 408 stoker pulls my ~3250lbs street/strip car to 10.1 @ 130mph, shifting at 6500.

72 duster, 2900 lbs, 28x10.5, 8 3/4 391 mvb 904. Has a 360 crate motor in it now. I know I’ll have to change rear gear and build trans

at that light weight running 9’s is a super easy piece of cake.
I would use ported Indy -2 oval port heads, and nice flat tappet cam, something in the mid 260’s, 640 ish lift. Good 950 carb, 8 inch convertor, indy intake.
You are there falling off a log. You only need 600 horse to meet your goal. You can look at either 3.79 stroke or 4.00 stroke.
We aware, if you spray, and making 600 plus horsepower, you are on borrowed time with both a production block and that 8.75 rear. I assume if you grudge the car you will be using a brake.
I like the Indy -2 better than the bigger -1 head. Either will easily reach your goals and provide room to exceed them
I ran well in the 9’s at 400 pounds more weight than you with W5 heads, which are no better than either of these heads, with no power adder.
Have fun, sounds like a realistic plan you have
