I need shorty headers in my ‘65 Valiant for ground clearance; their website says that the shorties are for ‘67 and up so I called them and asked if they know if they will fit a ‘65 and they told me that they “weren’t designed to fit” and if they knew of anyone who has tried and they said no.

Does anyone where know it the shorties will fit an early-a and if not what the issues are? Thanks in advance!

Not something I've tried, but the early A body engine compartment not only is significantly narrower than 67-later, but the early K frame and steering gear box are two inches further to the rear than the later ones. Can't see a shorty header designed for a 67-up A body can possibly fit in a 65 Valiant.

If ground clearance is your only concern, TTI and Doug's both make long tube headers for an early A. Not cheap, and not so easy to install, but they do fit, and have good ground clearance (nothing below the tie rods).

Maybe something like the Spitfires might work IF you have manual steering and IF you can find a set

Call Sanderson and ask for info on the model dd-9 header. I have seen them on a car before and the quality is very nice. I almost bought a set but I switched my 273 out for a 340 and got long tubes.

I have the Sanderson dd-9 headers for my 66. Not in yet, but mocked up look like the will fit no problem...Got thru summit....

You've answered your own question by calling the header manufacturer. They told you they don't fit and they will not if they're designed for the 67 and up cars. They won't fit. Keep asking until you get the answer you're lookin for, then order them. You'll find out they don't fit. The Spitfires, Sandersons and the modified Hedmans are the only ones that will fit. The Hedmans only fit modifying one tube on the driver's side and without power steering.

Thanks all, I looked into the Sanderson headers and I think I might roll with those. Thanks again for all your help!
