I’m looking at around 500 or less I should be ok
550+ and 500 or less is 2 different transmissions. It goes back to the old adage, "2 ton of fertilizer in a 1 ton truck". You might be able to build a transmission for that power level but if it's on the ragged edge you may have problems. Don't come complaining when it fails. Like a member on another site here. Wanted a new Ram pick up. 4 door 4 wheel drive and wanted to tow a 16' boat but wanted to buy the V6. Nope, use your head and get the Hemi.

I would'nt trust/use anything Total Crap Incorporated makes had one of their transmission lasted 1 week=GARBAGE!!!

Ditto to what stroked340 posted "Total Crap Inside". Steer as far from them as possible, their transmissions are piles of crap & they WILL NOT honor their warranty.

Good to know. Thanks guys!

I would assume that TCI is not the only one out there with a heavy duty kit
I have heard both good and bad about their transmissions
I can’t afford a 1500 plus trans no w it would set me back six months
I bought the trans and converter for 200 plus the kit for 250 filter misc total 500 I’m going to build it myself
If it blows I’m not really out that much

well...TCI probably does not make anything in the kit....just outside vendors...tci does not make clutch disc....raybestos and borg wargner do....tci does not make the steel disc...see first answer...
sealing rings...Transtar or transtec makes them....they all just rebox the vendors parts...

some transmission companies are willing to make a kit for you....add or remove parts .....other you get what is in the box...

Since TCI is not up to par what would you recommend? Is there 1 company that puts all the good stuff in one kit? I know B&M has been around forever, but I have dealt more with stick then Autos, and now I have an 727 in a Duster and would like to beef it up some.

TCI wasn't very helpful to me when I needed them so I am not sure I can be of much help recommending their products now.

I'm tempted to put together a kit with all rings gaskets and seals; filter, duprene pan gasket, thick thrust washers, all Red Eagle thin clutches, kevlar front band. And maybe pump bushing and direct drum bushing.

I would be up for one of those kits. Have you gotten parts from transmissionbench.com before and do you use Sonnax parts when available?

I would get everything from John at Cope Racing Trans. He set me straight on a 904 kit and went with a PTC converter, transGo 2 shift kit. Everything was almost a grand. I had to put it together myself, well my brother helped me big time on the assembly of that.

What fails in the TCI...go after that components maker. C'mon if the Firestone tires suck and fail on the Explorer, is Ford to blame? Well..maybe. Disclaimer: I own nothing from TCI
