Shifter/floor interference

The cut out area of my floor does look like it was cut with a torch in a hurry. I dont know how it would make a difference, but this car was originally V8, 4speed. I bought it as a gutted roller and installed a /6 and 65 A body B&T 833 using a later OD bellhousing. I havent heard of any length differences in bellhousings or floor hump locations between V8 and /6 cars. I could, but am hesitant to remove the carpet and relocate the shifter hole and brackets for the shift pattern trim plate. Maybe modify the holes in the shifter mounting plate, or replace it w one that angles the shifter a bit rearward?
