Hi all, this is a project I have been working on in the background for the better part of a year now. With the help of a couple of lovely folks on this forum and a fellow engineering student, we have been able to make a 3D printed reproduction rocker trim clip for 1964 and 1965 Barracudas. The clips secure the trim on the rocker panel shown below:

Here's a little bit about the parts:

- They have been patterned off of original OEM parts
- They are made from carbon-fiber reinforced Nylon on a high-precision MarkForged 3D printer. These printers can make parts with tolerances in the thousandths of an inch range.
- The CF Nylon material is very strong yet flexible enough to be installed easily and withstand all the conditions that a normal road-driven car might see.
- They have been test-fitted on an early Barracuda with positive results!
- Here is a picture of the two test parts next to an original clip:

Seeing as these parts are not in the highest demand and this is the first time I have sold these, I want to do a small batch of them and see what the results are. This means, if you are interested in buying these parts I would very much like your feedback and thoughts so we can improve them for the next run. I am thinking 5 people for the first run to keep things manageable, so first come, first served.

Pricing:
The materials for these parts is expensive but there isn't any other type of 3D printer filament that suits the bill for this application. Printer time on a MarkForged is valuable as well, so the cost of the first few runs will be relatively high. I am hoping to make these affordable depending on demand and what I can work out on the production side without compromising the quality of the parts.

Each clip comes with its respective center pins to expand the prongs and lock the clip in place.

1 clip: $8.00 USD ($8.00/clip)
Set of 6: $45.00 USD ($7.50/clip)
Set of 20 (whole car): $120.00 USD ($6.00/clip)

All prices include shipping to anywhere in the United States! If you are in a different country please contact me and we will work out international shipping and price accordingly. If you need a number of clips between 6 and 20, we'll just price them each at the set of 6 price.

Chained_360, Thank you for the effort put forth on remanufacturing this part. I just counted my original broken clips, and I come up with 19, and I believe one is missing. I just counted the holes and there are 10 total each side (9 in body, 1 in fender). Does a different clip go in the fender? I have a '65 Barracuda FS.

Interesting, I will have to check that. I thought both the '64 and '65 and 18 per side but I will double check and get back to you ASAP!

Just curious, since you have a '66 pictured, are their clips different than '64; '65?

Shoot, I didn't notice that was a '66 in the picture! I believe the '66s are a different piece that is wider. If someone has an original and needs more made, I'd be more than happy to try to make a model and print it as well!

I looked through my notes and checked with a friend on the forums, I mixed up the number of clips. It is indeed 20 per car for '64/5 Barracudas and 18 per car for '70 GTXs, another part I am working on. Thank you for the correction!

I’m in for some, most or all. Im working out of town and will inventory my missing and broken junk when I jet home next week. We all appreciate your aaaaR and Dee and time spent on a small, yet important detail. Thanks!

Sounds good! I'm glad I can (try to) provide parts that haven't been available for a while. Thanks!

Chained-360, The molding clips for the 67 GTX fit the 64/65/66 Rocker Moldings also. You can get them on e-bay at Molding Clip Kit 67GTX 65 Custom/Polara/Newport 270791 for $65 and they give you 18 clips 18 plugs and the two metal retainer clips that go to the front of each molding with the two nuts to hold them from being pulled off. I got mine from Classic Industries about a year ago and they worked fine. Another member told me about this a year ago. I just checked e-bay and they have a few different places and prices that carry them. Good Luck Joe.

I am interested if still available. I would need 6. Thanks.
I'll get 6 on the way! I will keep you updated on the process.

Thank you for the heads up, I was already aware that these parts are available! My understanding is that they need some sanding to fit the early Barracudas properly, so I wanted to try to get the correct original part reproduced. These parts also help me further my understanding of the reproduction process so I can provide other replacement parts in the near future!

Chained-360, Yes, that was my first understanding when discussing purchasing the 67 GTX retaining clips from Classic Industries with another member. But to my amazement they fit just the way they came. I did mention in another post when installing them to the body a friend held the Rocker Molding tight to the body and tight to the top of each clip starting from front to back of the molding while I gave it one or two good whacks at the bottom of the molding right bellow each clip. There just like the originals and they only cost me around $65 and they come with every thing to do both sides plus the metal retainers and nuts that go in the first front hole. Its hard not to break some when removing the moldings so I would replace all. So there you have it $65 or $120 and not get the metal retaining clips for the front part of each molding. But like I said once before there's a lot of parts hard to come by and hope your venture works out. Good Luck Joe.

I already have the 270791 clips and can see the difference. I would prefer what you are working on. I am still onboard for at least 6. By the way, my '65 Barracuda used 20 identical clips. So the 2 metal clips included in the 270791 kit are of no use to me. Thank you!

DC340, What exactly is the difference? Would you mind measuring the height of one of your 270791 clips and post it here so we have a better understanding about the issue. If these clips are already available through normal channels, we need to know why some (Joe Eichner) say they work fine and you don't. Please elaborate.

The height difference I measure is roughly 0.10 inch taller on the 270791 (I'm not measuring an NOS clip on mine though). The 270791 clip is beveled to knife blade from car to outer surface. The original clip on my car is beveled from both sides giving a pointed edge in center. The thickness on the clip surfaces is also different - roughly 0.060 thicker for the original clip vs. the 270791 clip.

I'm just saying they are different, not that the 270791 clip can't be made to work or won't work as is. I'm just saying I would prefer a more dimensionally correct reproduction. I haven't received Chained 360's part so I can't comment on how it compares.

For comparison purposes ... a side view of the 270791 clip and an original 64-65 Barracuda clip.
The width of the original is 1.66" and the GTX clip is 1.77.
In my experience the point can be sanded off the GTX clip and utilized so it doesn't stretch the moulding but they do not hug the body curve like the original. The GTX clips, being designed to hold the moulding to the flatter 1967 rocker, will hold the moulding in place but the pieces offered here do the job correctly.

Thanks DC340 and grimreaper, this is the very helpful. I was thinking it was all about the height of the clip, not the shape of the surface where it mates with the rocker panel. I can see how the original clip would draw the molding closer to the rocker, as it is thinner in the middle and has the curved backside.
