New find.

Is it just me or do those rocker adjusters look more than maxed out instead of being backed-off.
Pushrods too short?

Hmmm hyd tappet lifters? Idk but all the valves are closed i just assumed he did it on purpose to keep moisture out of the cylinders since it didn't have any manifolds

They do look funny. They actually look short. There's not a lot of threads showing top or bottom.

I wasn't sure iv read that some head bolts are one time use once torqued down. I didn't know if studs was the same.
Bolts called "torque to yield" are not reusable. Wont find them on an la engine. Any mismatch of la engine valve train parts would never result in too short pushrods. Too long, yes

Exactly!

If you've got a bore scope....you could run it down the spark plug holes to see what the cylinder walls look like and what pistons it has in it before you bust a head off of it. If it's all good, that would save the cost of head gaskets.

Bigger retainers on double springs??? Id be checking clearance on them rockers.

Retainers look good to me what's the issue? You think the retainers or springs may hit the rockers? Certainly possible. There ain't a lotta room there to begin with.

I see a lot good going on with the valve springs, looks like the guid. There are several flat tappet hydraulic cams that call for dual valve springs. I imagine that you'll be going through it to some degree anyway, but if it turns out to be a solid lifter cam, you're going to have to find out what it is to know where to set your valve lash at.

More of a question about dual springs. Seems the retainers could easily be larger than stock specification. And yes, I think the 273 had smaller retainers than 340-360

The SPRINGS are larger than stock, so the retainers are too, since they span the entire diameter of the spring. Those look like at least 1.5" OD springs. Pretty fat. I think he's got a lot of good parts there. Probably a pretty nice engine.

I'll most definitely look into that.

To be honest I just picked it up as a core. I figured for the price and how hard 360 la engines are getting to come by the block would be worth the price. Especially since I just bored my +60 over lol. He didn't know any thing about it I just assumed it was a pulled stock truck 360. Once I started seeing all the extras I got really excited lol

Nice score! One thing I see I would change already is toss the rocker springs in the ditch. That's big block stuff. The small block rockers use solid spacers. But man, what a nice score! I wanna see a head casting number!
Yea want to know what heads they are too so far no luck finding a casting number. Most iv seen are always in a runner there beside one of the valve springs i don't see nothing on this one.

Did SB's ever use springs? I bought a set that has them too. What would be the problem?

Looks like a stock car engine with the tall breathers on the valve covers. A claimer motor. LOL

Those valve covers are toast. It looks like the spouts were welded on. :BangHead::BangHead::BangHead:

Yea I will go through the whole thing. Depending on how rhe short block looks i may not have to do much to it tho. I bought it as a spare. Im really wanting to start building a race car soon this engine may be a good candidate

No they did not. But also too, we're not sure what those rockers are yet, either. Remember, several companies in the aftermarket made rocker similar to the 273 rockers, so they may be somebody's matched set. Who knows?
