Thanks guys. It came out clean as a whistle. I used an angle grinder and 40 grit flap disc.

Hell, I think I even raised the compression a couple points. It's a win-win!

I know I'm right....
you just removed the high spots that cause pre-ignition, your good! I usually clean the decks of head gasket crap with a metal paint scraper, followed by a rag with some purple power on it. If the block is on a stand, EZ-Off original formula, not the lemon scent. It works great with a pressure washer blow down and then a air gun to dry it off and then a spray down of the cylinders to prevent flash rust.
