Type F was Ford's first ATF that was used in the early Ford-o-matics dating back to the early 50's.
All Mopar and GM products spec'd Type A fluid which was superseded by Type B then Dexron in the 70's.
If you used a Type A/ B/Dexron in a Ford transmission the clutches would burn out innjust a few miles without the Type F friction modifier. Happened to me twice when a local shop serviced my '79 T- Bird and '75 F150 transmissions ( FMX).
