I want to remove the double threaded fiting to install my 90 degree oil filter adapter. I expected a hex head nut and instead have a round machine piece instead. My question is do I slide a socket extension inside the fitting and give her a turn counter clockwise like My gut is telling me. I just don't want to break it. Thanks, Chris

be forewarned, they can be in there TIGHT

make sure you hold on to that nipple, members are always looking for them

one more thing, when you are ready to install the 90 degree adapter grab yourself a big pipewrench to hold the adapter in place
if you do not do that, when the bolt tightens down it can twist the adapter and tear the gasket

Thanks for the advice. I got it out. It was tight!

Is there a torque setting for the adapter bolt?

from all i can find, it is 50 Ft/lbs

which bolt do you have?
there are 2 versions, and obviously one is more prone to snapping in half then the other

having said that, i think the bottom one might be safer at 30 ft/lbs
(which is another number i ran across)

Grease both sides of the gasket that is right below the hex head. This will aid you in getting a tighter torque on the bolt.

The goal is not to have a leak. Now if you were to use something like the ARP assembly lube you would definitely have a reduced torque number. Grease and oil will prevent a premature torque setting due to friction. The way I’ve done it for years.

Thanks for this thread, it set me straight, but I must be pretty weak from my abdominal surgery 2 months ago, because my nipple didn't budge. So I sprayed some PB Blaster around and I'll try later. My first time doing this, so what's next, heat, breaker bar, impact gun? Counter clockwise, correct?

Try a breaker bar first. Make sure the 3/8 short extension you're using fits tightly in that inner square so you don't round it off inside. If it does round off, the last resort is a pipe wrench on the threads that hold the oil filter.

Up in the sticky page listing here on s blocks, make sure to have your gaskets in the proper place, there are 3 I think.

If your referring to post 17, that one only takes one

The 90 degree adapter takes three

The PB Blaster and breaker bar won this battle. It came out with no damage, but you guys are were right. In there tight. Thanks for the guidance, nothing broken!

Oof. I ran a shorty filter on that and tossed that 90 adapter toward the first guy with 35 bucks. Leaks be gone and its easier to change the filter.
I bought that nipple for $7 new on ebay and it was spec'd for a later model Jeep. Hex head and all.

I did not realize that two different parties are doing the same thing on pne thread.
I'm out.
