I posted earlier about getting my 904 rebuilt. I just spoke to John from CRT and he informed me he's no longer building automatic 904's at least for the foreseeable future, only racing stuff. So then I tried Hughes Performance, they seem to have ended rebuilding them as well! So I know not to go with TCI. Has anyone used Performance Automatic?

Thanks, but I really don't want to get involved in rebuilding it myself. Never did it before. And I want to make it once and done! The trans is the cars weak point, everything else has been addressed.

Is that what you told you GF went she wanted to have sex the first time....dont want to get involved cause you never did it before......

I never done one either....but I did...and they are easy...

A&A transmission in Indiana
Robert Is their 904 / 727 guy.
He will build you whatever you want.
I built my 904 myself and bought all parts from him, he helped me a ton!
Highly recommend.

I am thinking if the shops stop building them, the rebuild kits and parts will dry up also...

And again.... (720) 939-0183 Andrews Racing Transmissions

They are are in Colorado, He is top notch

Wow, there has to be someone in your area that does them. As always, "too bad you're not closer".

I ended doing my own, since my buddy retired. I did my own years ago, and the 2 I did this winter I haven't tried yet. The good parts prices have increased, so when I tell someone what it might cost, they usually do not want to spend that. My buddy needed one for his Demon, his cracked the case. I told him it would be at least $ 1000 in parts, because I wouldn't reuse his modified valve body. I ended up finding a rebuilt one from a racer with a manual valve body, low 1st gear and deep pan for $ 1000. So that is what he did.

I picked up two unmolested 904 transmissions last summer. Figured it couldn't hurt to have them laying Around for the future.

I have a Great trans guy here in jersey. Turnersville nj. He does them on the side. Think he is two hours from you though.

I had my 5.9 ready to go in when my 904 started making odd whining noises from the front planetary set, so I considered rebuilding it.
I can build them myself, but after looking up all the related parts I found it would cost almost the same to replace the 904 with a 42RH overdrive.
Plenty of those still around.

XACTLY!!!! I just bought a 904 from Roy, SG Barracuda, a core to stash and maybe another. The last thing I want to do is be pissed off down the road because I didn’t have the foresight to buy itwhen it was reasonable. My mantra is to buy spares like window regulators, hood hinges , glass, fenders, hood, trunk lid,
Etc
I plan on keeping it till I go, passing it on to my son, who will pass it to his son. So in a sense I can take it with me. Haha

Back to my original question. Has anyone tried or heard of Performance Automatic, Summit Racing sells them. They aren't TCI.
