what is the greatest achievements you did on your car.

My greatest all time? To get this behemoth to fit inside the engine well of a '70 Cuda. The 904 ci DOHC engine is 5" wider than a street hemi. The E-body is 5" wider than my A-body. And I know they have gotten a Hemi to squeeze into an A-body. Thus we gave it a go. Ran into the same exact shock tower and K-frame problems the boys back in the day ran into with putting a Hemi in an A-body. Lol. So at least I had some data?

Wish we had a pure jealousy button. Totally jealous! Nice rig!

what have you done to your classic that your proud of and willing to share,
A skidplate to protect my Milodon Roadrace deep sump pan.
The pan only hangs down about an inch or less below the K-member, but even with .103 bars, a HD swaybar, and HD shocks, it was suffering from a lot of roadrash; so I finally got to it. And now I can bash over speed-bumps with impunity; BAM!
those poly strutrod bushing might be the next thing to have to go........... lol

Rebuilding the 727 with a LOT of help from FABO!
I never thought I could do it but you guys got me through it!

Getting the car back on the road after 44 years of being dormant. As a bonus, I took it back to the original owner, whom I got it from, and we spent the day beating the crap out of it. He video’d some of the spirited driving, and loves to share it with his friends and family. Here he is after being out of the drivers seat since 1976.

On a related note, the reason it was taken off the road was because someone had cut the battery cables and stole his battery, and I was just going through some of the paperwork I got with the car, and there is was, the receipt for 2 new battery cable ends and a new battery!

I met and befriend Joe Schubeck in Vegas while investigating a Hemi option for the Car. He made an offer I couldn't refuse on one of his monster DOHC marine engines. Only 2 of these 904s exist. Most his engines were smaller. He focused on marine sales because in the 80s when he first unveiled? Both NHRA and Nascar band multi valve engines soon after in their class categories. (Of course because the big 3 were not on board.)

Yeah that thing is a beast. Please keep posting your progress.

Put this car together and on the road. I rebuilt the 440 engine and found all the factory stock stuff a piece at a time on eBay. The first acquisition was a Mopar parts book, so I had the factory part numbers to use in my searches. I rebuilt the dash and the entire interior. Painted the engine compartment to body color. Found the right hood and painted it. Rebuilt the suspension and installed the correct 8-3/4” rear with 3.55 Sure grip. Best time at Atco was 14.0. I finished everything around 2000 for a total of around $10K (believe it or not).

It sat since 1985. This was the day I got it off the dirt floor and into the garage... It's no longer on the radar of things I spend time on however I saved it from sitting and mother rust finishing it off.... Time will tell the future of it but I guess the answer to the question is I saved it from seeing further damage. And it will have the original motor and tranny back in it.....

I like the "long awaiting" projects. I can very much relate. As life just sometimes gets in the way.

We lost our local track this year.... I am glad plan A went out the window last year with the RB. And I've lost too many of my racing buddy's. And we get older and some of us just decide to do other things.... But there sure is something to be said about having an old car somewhere in the woodpile lol..... It gives a man hope....

You folks have some great stories, and memories.
Me I have nothing. Figure just give the thread a bump.
Cool topic.

30 years ago I stuffed a 400 in my Dart convertible and kept the power steering and brakes, with the factory big block exhaust manifolds. Trying to do what the factory couldn't.

Lol, I haven't done anything YET to my rust free 70 swinger (baby turd) except buy it for $400.00 dollars

I guess I could say I've amassed alot of parts to get me to my goal & my 400 block 471stroker is being machined now, which is a great accomplishment for me since I rarely make more than my monthly bills & my wife is actually being supportive lol that I'm getting 1 of my dreams accomplished.

When I purchased a '72 Satellite Sebring Plus, the previously rebuilt 318 (re-built circa 1979) was on the garage floor of the previous owner. I stored the vehicle and the 318 at my brother's house which was rented at the time. The renters decided to power wash the motor for me. A couple of months later I arrived to install the motor, only to find it was frozen solid.

After days of pouring various concoctions thru the spark plug holes, finally got it to spin. Disassembled the motor to replace all the gaskets (except rear main). Put it back together and it started right up.

Since then I have made two road trips (over 3,000 miles each) without a break down. I guess you could say this has been my most successful "Hail Mary".

I no sooner got it running, than it began to attract atteniton. First time I filled it with fuel (ARCO), an attractive young lady stopped to speak to me. Her little brother (about 10-12 years old) was attracted to the Satellite and wanted to get a closer look. I had him sit in the driver's seat while I oogled at his sister for a couple of minutes.

I HID MINE FOR TWO YEARS BEFORE THE WIFE FOUND IT! That count?

I bought my car trailer at a car show (yes, my wife was there and knew about it). A friend of mine was going to go buy it, but I beat him to it. At the end of the show he asked me if it was going home empty. It was until he asked if I would deliver a Challenger to his house. He told me to tell his wife it was a customer car...not sure what he told her later...

For me,

Just having my wife involved and enthusiastic for restoring the car and all the great times we have had working on it together and enjoying the finished product.

In particular the day we dropped the fish over the front suspension and engine/trans!!! Big day for us alone together!

Course the first ride conversation may top that!!

She asked “Are you sure and how do you know nothing with fall off”!

She had never seen a car “completely” dissembled and I mean every nut and bolt, and put back together, never mind being a big part of it!

My reply was Damn! Are you kidding me!!!!

Yep!

And she dove down under to insert the trans cross bolts in while I was driving in the K bolts! Still hard to believe she was concerned about pieces falling off!

Oh well, it is all water under the bridge 7 years later.

Just tell her that if parts fall off they weren't necessary in the first place (and that applies to more than just cars...)

Well hard to decide what was my greatest thing on my car. Complete restoration and on the road in 2 years and at the same time painted my sons air plane.
Lots of mistakes and had to redo somethings over.
I think my center console I made was the most interesting to do.

All done and in the car. It was fun to build and screwed up plenty of times but I'm happy.

Getting the courage to tackle the installation of the quarter panels myself. It may not be to bodyman standards but I think they will look decent when done.
