My thinking is. The seals are original and when they started to leak, rtv was just put around the outside instead of changing the seals. I could be wrong though, we shall see. I Just hope like hell it stops the majority of the leaks. I am so sick of atf everywhere.

Yeah, getting our older cars to stop leaking is an ongoing problem! When I got my car this past November, I found the gas tank leaked when I filled it full. When I got it home, I found the old owner put RTV type stuff all around the filler tank grommet to try to stop the leak. Guess it was too much work to simply change the grommet! I pulled the grommet, scraped all the "pookie" off around the tank opening, and installed a new grommet. Lubed the filler tube and reinstalled it. No more leaks. Funny!
