So long story short, my brother has been on the hunt for a '70s era Mopar "muscle car" in the $5k range. That's getting surprisingly harder than it used to be.

We stumbled upon a '74 Roadrunner for $5k. It's been sitting in a barn for 5yrs+ untouched. Its somewhat unique for a '74 RR I believe. It's a special order car in Golden Fawn, with the stripes and hood treatment delete. Body color steel wheels with dog dish caps. So it looks like grandma's Satellite. It's had some minor body work in the past as well as a respray. Fairly solid with just a little patch in the driver's side floor needed.

However, it's equipped with the E58 360 high performance, heavy duty A727, and a 9.25" rearend with 3.23s and a SureGrip. Inside is golden interior with buckets, console, Rallyes gauges, deluxe upholstery and a slap stick shifter. The car also has PS, PB, and AC.

Concerned about it sitting so long, we wanted to see if it would start. We threw in a good battery, spun the engine over with the starter until we had oil pressure. Splashed a little gas down the Thermoquad, and it fired right up. No rattles or smoke either.

Needless to say, my brother has opted to buy it.

I'm mostly curious as to the value of the car, and any experiences with these you guys have had.

Value at the end of the day is whatever someone actually paid for it.

What makes it a special order?

If you got it for 5K and it doesn't need:

Quarters
Cowl
Frame rails
Drive train

You did pretty good.

I do like the later ones compared to 71-72 which I don't care for. Damn I wish I had a 70 B, does not even have to be a RR or GTX

You don’t want to crank on the starter until you get oil pressure. The oil pump does not spin fast enough by doing this and will cause more harm than good..

Let's see it.....

If you take the plugs out it will.

5K for a roadrunner, i would expect to look like this

The wheels on that one go for about 800.00 a set. Not much value in any rusted F-body though.

Super Coupe?

They're trending up.

OP's friend should join the B body side.

Several 73 threads running right now.

No doubt 71-2 B's bring more, but those later comes have following these days. But like YY1 said, if solid and runs..... that means a LOT!!!!!

73-74 RR running in decent shape brings $15,000 to $25,000.

I once had a 73 RR with the 440 GTX option.

I want to own a 71-74 Satellite/RR. I prefer 71/72, just because I want to own one. Same for an early A, didn't want one for anything for many years, but the last 5 years they've grown on me and now I want one!! LOL

I bought four of them about 6 months ago. Three satellites and a 71 383 air grabber road runner. Cars sat for about 30 years.
Im not really a B body guy so will eventually sell of of them. Im currently working on bringing back the 72 and its now running and driving.
I have a 74 satellite mostly complete but rough. Will sell that one cheap.
Still undecided if im parting the roadrunner or try to sell it complete. She is rough but fixable.
Lastly is the 71 which is total junk parts car.

These later B bodies never got much love but people are starting to appreciate them more. Hidden gems, kinda like A bodies were for the longest time. I never liked them much but since buying these, they are really growing on me. I keep picturing the 72 painted up as a general lee. I gotta get rid of these before I end up with another project :)

.
Blue with the American flag called the General Grant.

For 73/74 I think $25K is ultra high end unrestored original with desirable options.

15-18K is more realistic for a nice, solid car in good to very good shape.

If someone owned more than one T top Super Coupe, they might have owned every one ever built.

I actually restored one several years ago 440 4 speed, they where only made for 2 years 73-74 if it needs sheet metal it’s very hard to find some pieces from 71-72 can be retrofitted, but unless you can fabricate I’d probably stay clear

I had a base Charger. NOT the Rallye option, was it a 73?? Dunno 400 4 speed car. Seems like I read it was one of 75? Sold it in 2005, could hardly give it way back then, rust free Mo car needed nothing. Another Bad mistake on my part!
