Fans of Tony DeFeo and his YouTube channel "Uncle Tony's Garage" may already know of this build.....

I wonder though....Why put a slant six in one of those cars? Why not a V6 like a 3.6 Pentastar or an LA series engine?
Slant six...It weighs almost double what a Miata engine weighs and makes about the same power.
Tony had to hack the firewall, the trans tunnel and then butcher some bullshit cover to close off the engine bay and trans tunnel.....to fit a slant six in there.
Opinions?

I don't know man. I've been wonderin ever since I heard the rumors "why". I guess cause they can.

You gotta do whatever you gotta do, to keep the relationship between you and your car spicy and exciting. Even if that means trying new tools or car parts to keep it warm then you gotta just relax and go with it.

I've wanted to get a neon and put a 318 in it just to do it but I have too much other stuff going but why not do what he's doing to the miata.

I like it!!

Yall keep in mind too, youtube is how Tony makes his livin now. Nuthin wrong with that. So he's comin up with new entertaining stuff....and it's certainly that.

You need to find like a mid 80s Daytona and drop a small block in it. Mopar performance made a complete K member for that swap. Of course, you have to design and install whatever rear end you choose. But those kits were pretty popular. They pop up on eBay every now and then. They fit any of that same body. Daytona, Sundance......all those same cars....."whatever" letter they were.

I am currently looking for a nice body to transplant my hot lil 367/A833/GVod into. But-um, no, not a Miata. Nor a neon. I need a lil more wheelbase than either of those have, cuz it's also gonna have an 8.75 with leaf springs. Well, I also need the longer wheelbase cuz at 68, my reflexes are bound to get older soon, and those short wb cars can be a handful while sliding; which is my favorite thing to do.
So I gotta watch Tony, to see what I might have to get into. But no slanty for me. If I'm gonna do all that work, I'm gonna need some payback, measured in massive tire smoke, thunder, lightning and terror. Somehow 6-in-a-row is not on my wish-list.

Cuz, that’s why

I think the slant six is a fine engine for it's intended applications. I don't mind a slanty in a street rod.
It looks stupid to me to butcher a Tic-Tac sports car to put in an engine that will propel the car NO faster than it did with the stock engine.
To me, Hot Rodding is about using parts to improve performance. This is a build reminiscent of an episode of Junkyard Wars where the crew had no choice but to use the only resources they had at their disposal.

I put a 360 with a 300Z rear end into a 85 Lazer , got to roller stage but had to get rid of it cause of a move. When the the V6 gets too many miles on it in my 2013 Avenger RT like to swap 360 or modern hemi into it.

I like the build I always wanted to do an high rpm 170 /6.
